Miss Zygiel's Class

October 12-16

What an awesome week! We had a busy start by going to Heritage Hill on Monday. It was such a beautiful day and the students had such a great time. The highlight of the field trip was making our own butter by shaking cream and then getting to sample it. I think most of the students also loved a little kitten that followed us the whole day! They had a lot of fun doing chores that the boys and girls would do in that time, including letting the ladies first into the room. I was very impressed with our students questions and behavior during our time there.

In Math, we have been looking at Fact Families or Math Mountains. We are able to use all of the strategies that we practiced at the beginning of the year to help us solve the problems.

In Social Studies, we used cardinal directions to help us find numbers. We also reviewed our continents and the difference between maps and globes.

During Daily 5, we started a new choice listening to reading. We continue to practice independence during this time.

If you want to turn in a recipe for our classroom cookbook please turn it in by Tuesday, October 20th so we will be able to get all the books ready to be decorated.

I have more pictures of our day at Heritage Hill on our class website.

Take a look!

Next Week...

We will be working in our Math Expressions book. We will be finding missing addends and and looking at story problems. Students will be bringing home flashcards to practice at night. This is to improve fact fluency so that they will know the facts quickly. Thank you for getting math homework done and turned in. We will not have homework overnight but when we do have homework I appreciate it being turned in the next day.

Social Studies:

We will be finishing our Map and Globe Unit with group presentations.

We will be continuing our personal narrative unit focusing on details and how to hook a reader. We will also be creating a writing project for families to check out at parent teacher conferences so keep a look out for that!

Daily 5:

We are in the swing of our Daily 5 rotations. Students will be continuing to bring home reading bags. They will be bringing home books that we have read together in reading groups. Read together and ask questions. In their reading folders I included a sheet of questions or things to talk about when reading.
