What's been happening in the land of learning?

Hello Everyone,

We had a great week in Grade 1. Firstly, Thank You to all who attended our class Writer's Cafe. The students did a great job of hosting those who could attend and enjoyed presenting their poetry. Also, Happy belated Mother's Day to all our class moms. Thank you for the love and support that enables your children to learn and grow each day.

Here is a link to videos from our cafe day. Thank you Ms. Banu!

Throughout the rest of the week (after our Writer's Cafe) we continued work on our personal narratives, finished our last round of GATES literacy testing, expanded our knowledge of place value and practiced our problem solving skills. We also learned about tools used in our community, had our final swimming class for the year and got to watch the 5th Grade production of Mulan!!

Next week, we will return to regular P.E. class so keep those swim bags at home =). We will also return to some of the word study routines that have gotten lost in our busy testing schedules over the last two weeks. Keep an eye on your child's homework for new word study words.

We will also continue with our ABC countdown:

May 15 - Hat Day (wear your favorite hat to school)

May 16 - Illustration Day

May 17 - Joke Day (tell your favorite joke)

May 18 - Kick Off Your Shoes Day!!

May 19 - Letter Writing Day

Lastly, During Explore Time next week, we will be trying out a collaborative MinecraftEdu experience. Students will be invited to work together on constructing Minecraft creations in a collaborative, multiplayer setting for up to one half of their explore time during the week. If you would not like your child to participate please email me to let me know, and I am happy to ensure that his or her explore time remains 'screen free.'

Thank you for all your time and support at home!
