Sept. 17
Missing Assignments Report for Cubs: If you have some extra time in Cubs or want to help them improve their grades, you can print out a missing assignments report through IC. You do the following:
- Pick reports
- pick flagged, select your cubs group
- flagged should open with 'missing' already marked, so just generate the report
Thank you Mrs. Petersen for sharing during Team Leader Meeting yesterday!
Bear Bucks Cart: We are going to roll this out very soon through Cubs. With that see the Pool "auction" volunteers email from Mrs. Ricceri.
Hello Staff,
MTSSB is gearing up to get the Dojo Dollars cart starting soon! We are hoping to fill it with auction-like items, such as $5 gift cards and pushing a staff member in the pool. Here is how the pool pushing will work this year:
- Staff volunteers will be added to a list.
- Students will contribute their Dojo Dollars towards the pushing of said staff members (only 5-6 staff will be on the list at a time).
- The staff member with the highest amount of Dojo Dollars will be pushed in the pool.
- We are still working out logistics on WHO will get to do the honors, but it will likely be the student who put the most Dojo Dollars towards that person.
- It will also be video recorded so all contributors are able to see the devastation ensue.
What we need to get this rolling is a list of who is willing to be pushed into the pool. Not replying to this email indicates that you are NOT willing. Please REPLY SENDER (to me only) if you would be willing to be "auctioned" to the highest bidder at some point this school year (i.e. you are okay with being pushed into the pool).
Thank you! And keep giving those Dojo Dollars!
Sept. 16
Parent Teacher Conferences: For your planning, October 13 will be a virtual conference. October 14 will be in person. We will share more details during September 20 staff meeting!
Referral data: We have had 156 referrals entered into IC this school year. 78 students have had a referral. We have 858 active students. This means that 91% of our students do not have a referral entered! Celebrate that positive with the students by stating why you appreciate having them in class. In addition, 58 of the referrals are on 10 students. We will continue to put plans into place to try to help those students be successful.
Sept. 15
September 24: We will not have students on September 24. This is an all day teacher planning/work day. This would be a great time to get caught up or work with you PLC/department.
#OPSProud - Feel free to download the "I'm #OPSProud because..." sign, fill in your reason, then take a selfie and post to social media. Be sure to tag your favorite school, Bryan Middle School, and include #OPSProud!
Classroom Closure Procedures for Staff & Students (From Inside the OPS - September 2021): Health and safety remain the focus for Omaha Public Schools. We continue to monitor community conditions and implement our COVID-19 mitigation strategies districtwide. If a cluster of cases is identified, we have procedures in place to determine if a group of students and staff would transition to remote learning temporarily. Those procedures for elementary and secondary are now included in the COVID-19 FAQ on our website. We will consult with the Douglas County Health Department as we make decisions on classroom closures.
For a cluster of cases identified on a bus route or within a cohort:
- Staff will report to work and self-monitor for 14 days
- Vaccinated and masked students will report to school
- Unvaccinated and unmasked students will quarantine and self-monitor at home for 14 days
- Unvaccinated and unmasked students will access assignments and materials through TEAMS
September 14
Student Masks: I know everyone is giving some students a plethora of reminders to keep their masks over their nose. I appreciate you trying to follow the OPS policy on masks and help students to get their education. If you have a student that you are frequently reminding to get their mask up over their mouth and nose, feel free to send an email to the team administrator and me. As time allows, we will have a conversation with the student and the parent/guardian.
BMS Bell Schedule: 18 X 24 bell schedules are in! If you still need one, you can find them in the back office. They are "flattening" under some books.
#OPSProud Store at Benson High
Beginning this week, the #OPSProud store, hosted by Benson entrepreneurial and business students, will open for orders. Staff may purchase #OPSProud t-shirts, decals, pop-sockets or lanyards. Students will gain real-world experience by processing orders, making the t-shirts and sending orders out to your school building. Orders will begin being filled the week of Sept. 27. Please allow for a two-week turnaround time once order processing begins. Orders will be collected on a rolling basis from now through May 2022. To purchase, visit opsbrand.org.
Omaha Public Schools Branded Apparel
From Sept. 13-21, we have partnered with a local vendor to offer Omaha Public Schools business casual apparel. Staff may purchase button-down shirts, cardigans, polos and jackets. There is a limited selection this year due to ongoing supply chain issues. All items come in the color they are displayed in. Orders will be delivered to schools in mid-October. To purchase, visit here.
- Fully clothed.
- Covered torso: I would love to hear what this means to you. We had a long discussion on it in leadership meeting.
- Shoes: This includes sandals or slippers. Basically students need a foot covering that is not just socks.
- Pictures or words promoting alcohol, drug use, weapons or words or images that insult or demean others are not acceptable at school.
Send me questions that you have. I believe this is a large discussion and one that students will need to be a part of, as our female students feel that we do target them based on the dress code.

Let me know if you have any questions- Steph

Open House: Please remind students to attend the open house with their families tomorrow. We are keeping it simple; students and families are going to be able to walk the building and check out the classrooms. Welcome families in and encourage students to talk about what you are currently studying in the classroom. We have last names A-L scheduled from 6 to 7 PM and last names M to Z from 7 to 8 PM.

Calendar Changes: District staff proposed changes to the 2021-22 academic calendar as part of the Academic Acceleration and Recovery efforts. The recommended changes come in an effort to provide staff additional opportunities to prepare for maximizing student learning and advancing student outcomes. Modifications to the calendar will allow for shifts to support teachers’ planning and professional development which will
benefit student learning.

- Nov. 1, 2021 – Teacher Planning Day
