COURSE SELECTION GRADES 9-11
Attention Class of 2026 Students and Families!
When making decisions about courses for next school year, please consider the new Innovation Pathway offerings at RMHS beginning in 2023-24. All freshmen had an informational session last week with the Directors of School Counseling and Academic Achievement during flex block. As promised in this session, the application for those freshmen interested in joining a pathway next year is linked below.
Innovation Pathway Application
More information is also available on the school website at https://rmhs.reading.k12.ma.us/en-US/career-and-technical-education-1c537c74 .
Students that took one or more of the year 1 courses outlined below are in a perfect position to continue in this content area. If students have not taken any of the year 1 or 2 courses and still want to enter into one of the pathways that is possible too. Guidance counselors are your best resource for a conversation on how to make this possible beginning next school year. For specific questions about Innovation Pathways please reference the links below, and for deeper questions please contact Director of Academic Achievement, Jessica B. Callanan at jessica.callanan@reading.k12.ma.us . A quick guide to the pathways in Advanced Manufacturing (Engineering) and Information (Computer Science) or Information (Digital Media) can be accessed through the following links IP Pamphlet (outside), IP Pamphlet (inside) .
RMHS is excited to work with local industry partners, highlighted on the pamphlet, to build meaningful and highly technical experiences for students. Each pathway culminates in a student’s senior year with an internship with an industry or supporting partner or a capstone project.
Senior Internships
RMHS secured 25-education and 20-STEM paid internships through the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and MassHire WorkForce Board. The Director of Academic Achievement, Ms. Jessica Callanan at jessica.callanan@reading.k12.ma.us is the point of contact for the STEM internships, and Health and Wellness Department Head, Ms. Katie Fiorello katherine.fiorello@reading.k12.ma.us for those in Early Childhood Education (ECE). As previously explained, seniors in field seminar and early childhood classes at RMHS this school year will have the first opportunity to participate in ECE internships; however, if a student is interested in an ECE internship and is not already in communication with Ms. Fiorello, they should complete the internship application below.
Seniors interested in an internship in the field of STEM should also complete the application below. In addition, RMHS is looking for partnerships with local businesses and industries that are willing to host senior interns this school year from April 3 - May 18. As previously outlined, the school secured funding to pay these students so that is not a request placed upon the host.
If you own a local STEM business or industry and are willing to host interns this year please email Jessica Callanan at jessica.callanan@reading.k12.ma.us.
Non-ECE or STEM Internship Information
RMHS is planning to offer seniors an internship opportunity for the 4th quarter for any senior who is in good academic standing (all classes above C-) and following the attendance policy at RMHS (8.5 absences or less in semester 2). Below are a few important notes about our internship program. *This is in addition to the early childhood development internships and the STEM internships that are also running this year with 25 and 20 placement respectively. .
In order to be eligible for a 4th quarter internship, you must have above a C- in all final grades and current grades in every quarter and be absent unexcused less than 8.5 times in semester 2 (remember, two tardies = 1 absence in a class)
On March 2nd, all seniors will be invited to attend an internship fair in the PAC during flex block. It is not required to get an internship with an organization at the fair, but the fair is a prominent place to make connections with potential internship locations.
All applications must be completed and submitted by 3/16 at 5PM to Ms. Buckley Kadi.buckley@reading.k12.ma.us. - Ms. Buckley will finalize internships by 3/24
Internships will take place from 4/3 - 5/18. Hours must be during school hours- the expectation is a set schedule of 20-30 hours a week.
We have encouraged our community partners to pay their student interns, although some might be unpaid.
Students enrolled in AP courses must remain in the course or courses until the completion of the appropriate AP exam or exams. Students may participate in the Internship Program on an abbreviated basis until the completion of AP exams.
Product Expected: On 5/18, students are to send an asynchronous video of your zoom presentation (10 minutes) about their learnings, experiences and connections to their future goals via the internship. We will assemble a committee of staff members to review the presentations. *you can read full details about the final presentation in the application.
Ms. Buckley will hold office hours weekly for seniors to check in about their internships and final projects.
Should your student decide to do an internship, please help them show up to their internship, help out the community, and complete the final project.
If students decide to complete an internship, their 3rd Q grade becomes their 4th quarter grade, too.
If students do not finish the internship, or do not complete the final project, they will receive an I (Incomplete) on their transcript until they complete the expectations of the internship, including the final project. This could affect their graduation status.
Below is a link available for you to view the application for the internship: Here is the application.
From the Health Office
We are updating our students’ electronic health record software system. The new Health Portal will allow parents to directly message school nurses, update any emergency contacts and medical conditions and securely upload medical documents to their child’s health record.
Families should have received an email from SNAP Health Portal inviting them to create a login. Please see here for more information about the Health Portal.
10th grade screenings are being completed this week and parents will receive an alert through the Health Portal for any results needing their attention.
Please contact mary.giuliana@reading.k12.ma.us with any questions.

What are Unified Sports and why are they important:
The RMHS Unified Basketball team will be dedicated to promoting social inclusion through shared sports training and competition experiences. Unified Sports joins people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team. It was inspired by a simple principle: training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding. By having fun and being active together, we will promote inclusion, friendship and keeping an open mind. Ultimately, we will develop more connections and provide an enriching and valuable experience for all participating athletes and families.

A HUGE SHOUTOUT TO OUR AMAZING AND GENEROUS FAMILIES AT RMHS!!!! The stocking of the teachers lounges happened on Wednesday and it was a HUGE success. We had so many donations and were able to stock the office, guidance, all the departments - science, math, English, languages, arts, health & wellness, Officer Lewis' office, Metco office, Athletic department with so many delicious snacks and drinks. We forgot to take pictures as we went but here is a picture at Alexis' house before we packed our cars. The teachers were SO HAPPY and we cannot thank you all enough!
DUES CAMPAIGN - Our PTO Dues campaign is a HUGE portion of the funds we are able to use for so many things throughout the school year (Teacher appreciation, Unity Day, funding the library for after school hours and enhancing the library, Homecoming, etc). The campaign runs all year and you can donate at any time either by sending a check into school made out to the RMHS PTO or you can click on the link below and send via PayPal. The suggest amount is $50 per family via check or $55 per family via PayPal (to cover any fees).
