Patti Smith is a song writer, artist, and poet. She became well known by people after she released her first album becoming well known and popular by people after she released her first album.
Childhood
Smith was raised on the south side of Chicago and in 1950 she moved with her family to Philadelphia. Then she also moved to WoodBury, New Jersey when she was only 9 years old and that's where she grew up. She was a tomboy and preferred playing with her male friends that doing 'girly' things.
Education
Smith went to Deptford High School and graduated in 1964, and soon after began working at a toy factory. After she quit the job she enrolled at Glassboro State Teachers College with the intention of becoming an art teacher
Family
Growing up, Patti was the oldest of four children. Her mother Beverly was a jazz singer turned waitress and her father Grant was a machinist at a Honeywell plant. She got married to Fred Smith, a guitarist for a band, and they had two kids.
Career
Patti Smith was quite successful throughout her career, releasing a total of 12 albums. Most of them were success with only about two not doing as well as others. She has been making music for almost 39 years. She's won a number of awards and has been the inspiration of many other singers.
Accomplishments
Smith has won numerous awards. She has won the Polar Music prize, National Book Award for Nonfiction, and NME Award for Best Book. She was also inducted into the 2007 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.She was even nominated for a Grammy.
