Culture Kits
International-Mindedness, at your fingertips.
Austria
Did you know yodeling was used in the Alps as a form of communication between mountain tops? The Austria culture kit comes with a yodeling cd. Try tracks 9, 12, and 14 for the traditional yodeling sound. The Alpine music cd is fun too. Try track 4 "He-U" - those are the only words, and students are bound to enjoy singing along.
Bangladesh
World Water Day is March 22nd, and what better way to understand the differences in water availability than to explore a culture kit full of pictures of life in another country? According to the kit, most of rural Bangladesh's water comes from wells due to the contamination of surface water. Much of the well water contains levels of arsenic unsuitable for drinking. Make sure to take a look at the photo of wild monkeys on the rooftop, common even in the city of Bangladesh.
Cambodia
Hello! Or Sour sdey (pronounced sew'r s-dey) in Khmer (pronounced coo-my). This is how you would greet someone in Cambodia. This culture kit is FULL of artifacts that students can touch and explore. The skull and crossbones t-shirt you see in the photo is a land mine warning shirt. Landmine awareness is a serious problem in Cambodia, as there is no record for where they were planted during time of war. The spider key chain is of significance, and comes with a very interesting fun fact. Check out this kit to learn more!
Dominican Republic
It's worth checking this kit out just to smell the coffee beans. Students will love exploring all the items. There are maracas, rosary beads, wrappers from food, a hand drum, dominoes, books, and a merengue cd from the 80s!
London
This kit comes with a constable's hat. Do I even need to say more? There are 3 bags full of artifacts like models of double-decker buses, tiny phone booth replicas, coins, postcards of the crown jewels, and a typical school uniform for boys and girls.
Modern and Traditional Tea Ceremony Kit from China
While we aren't allowed to use the tea leaves, we CAN use the tea pots to make tea. Did someone say use CultureGrams to learn about China, and then have a tea party? Yes please.
These kits are full of artifacts your students can touch and explore. Take a kit and pair it with CultureGrams or Britannica for current, accurate information written at a level your students can understand.
