K-6 Curriculum Notes

Updated Curriculum Maps/ Mastery Learning
ELA Curriculum Teams in grades 1-6 have been working on updating maps to work within specific, common four week windows. Those windows can be accessed here- Instructional Window Cycles.
The expectation is to be following the new maps at the beginning of Window C (K-4). Each Window will conclude with a district created common assessment. We will use the data from common assessments to drive reteaching and enrichment for students during Success Period.
A narrated presentation is below.
NWEA, Fountas & Pinnell, and Grade Reporting
The Grading Policy Sheet states that a student's reading level is 40% of the overall grade and includes their RRR (F&P benchmark) and NWEA (reading RIT). Please enter two grades each with an overall value of 20% to the final grade. The first would be figured using the student's benchmark reading level with the "Reading Level Conversion Table" on the Grading Policy Sheet and the second would be figured using their NWEA Reading RIT using the helpful document linked above.
Close Reading
Additionally, we will be asking all teachers K-12 to use the same annotation symbols when teaching close reading. Those can be found here. If you haven't received a printed poster of these please ask your administrator.
***Keep in mind this is still very new to many of us and we won't be perfect at it.
K-6 Curriculum Resources
As we progress with mastery learning and a wide scale implementation of short cycle (common) assessments the need for organization and ease of use is growing. To that end I am working on a new website that will house all the common assessments and be easier to use. The Google Drawing Mr. Eckart made will continue to be a place that houses a lot of good content.
NWEA
We will be sending around 60 individuals over the next few weeks to be trained on analyzing reports. Each building will have administrators and some teachers trained and will then be charged with assisting the remaining staff with that process. Those trainings are the end of September and early October. Expect at an October Tuesday morning to hear more about the various reports available within NWEA.
NWEA is the premier formative assessment tool available in Indiana and we are so lucky that the Board has committed the funds to allow us to have this data at our finger tips. I can't wait to see how it will end up informing our instruction!
ESGI Updates (Kindergarten)
A few tests were tweaked to gain consistency with Fundations instruction or match our assessment plan-
- Positional Words for GP2, 3, 4
- Lowercase letters and sounds was replaced for GP2, 3, 4
- Unit 6 tests were given their own tab
- Counting objects in a set was added to GP1
- Count and write numbers in a set was removed from GP4 because it is a paper/pencil test
- The ending sound test will be updated for GP2, 3, and 4
