A Message from the Principal
Greetings,
It was great to see so many of you at Fall Fun Night! Bravo to the Maple PTO for putting on another great family event. I hope you were able to meet other parents and get to all the stations. The food trucks were new this year and I welcome any feedback you have. We did have one food truck cancel at 4:00, so I want to thank everyone for your patience if you had to wait in line. I enjoyed meeting with several of our new families this morning. Mrs. Samide, Mrs. Kendall and I enjoyed sharing about Maple and answering questions. I’m so proud of our school. It’s easy to celebrate all that we do.
We have five days of school before fall break and teachers will plan engaging activities up to the very last minute. Please help us by reminding your children to work hard until the very end and to be at school on time each day. Awards Day is next Thursday at 2:00. We will celebrate academics, attendance and behavior/effort. Be sure to ask your child to set some goals for this 9-weeks after you review his/her report card this weekend. I hope all of you have a fantastic break! I know I’m looking forward to a slower pace at the Harrison house, a good book and catching up with friends.
Sincerely,
Nikki Harrison

A Message from Your School Counselor
Oct. 8-12 is Red Ribbon Week at our school, where we celebrate a healthy and drug-free life. Our theme this year is “Life is Your Journey. Travel Drug-Free!” We will celebrate RRW by wearing our red ribbons. Our classroom lessons and morning announcements will focus on safe and healthy choices. In this spirit, I am encouraging all of our parents to fill out the form at the bottom of the newsletter, sharing one healthy choice you make for yourself on a regular basis. Do you count your steps? Get 8 hours of sleep each night? Drink plenty of water? Now is the time to brag about your good habits!
Finally, please encourage your child to participate in our spirit days listed below. I am working with student council, so these spirit days are a fundraiser for their service projects throughout the year. Students need to bring a dollar each day they want to participate.
Monday- Winners practice good sleep habits-wear pajamas.
Tuesday- Sports Superstars make healthy choices! Wear a jersey or sweatshirt supporting your favorite team!
Wednesday- Make your Own Magic! (Disney-themed clothing-including Star Wars and Marvel)
Thursday- Wear hats and sunglasses
Friday- Freaky Friday!! (funds collected on Friday will benefit AEF)

Just a few reminders:
*Fall is in full swing and we are working hard to keep our classrooms healthy and ready to learn! With the change in weather, we often see an increase in contagious illnesses. Remember to review school health policies for guidance regarding when it’s best to keep your child home and when it's the right time for your child to return. If you have any questions we are always happy to speak with you.
*Cough drops are considered a medication and must be dispensed through the school nurse's office with parental consent. For the safety of our students, please do not send in bags of cough drops for your child's desk. Cough drops can be a choking hazard and are a short term fix for soothing a cough. Sending in a water bottle for your child to sip on throughout the day is a more effective way to comfort an irritated throat. Thank you for your cooperation.
*Healthy Habits to help you stay illness free all year!
*Wash your hands often with soap and water.
*Cover your mouth when you cough: use your elbow not your hands.
*Eat nutritious foods like fruits and veggies for snack and lunch every day.
*Don’t skip breakfast.
A Message from Mrs. Kendall, Title1/EL Teacher
Dear Families,
It is hard to believe but next week is our last week before Fall Break. Please mark your calendars for November 1, from 5:30-6:00 P.M. We will be offering a session on Schoology for new families to Avon or anyone who would like a refresher. The purpose of the meeting is to provide you with information about what you and your child can expect on an E-Learning Day. Students will participate in an E-Learning Day on Tuesday, November 6. Hope to see you there!
Sincerely,
Yael Kendall
Title 1/EL Teacher
If you are dropping your student off after the 8:25 bell, you must come in to the office to sign them in.
Thank you so much!
