Online Safety
As Humble ISD has temporarily transitioned to a distance learning approach, we must take some time to look at our online safety and digital fingerprint. Please take a moment to visit our Digital Citizenship Page to access resources that can be used to elevate the discussion about our online safety during these unprecedented times. There are also great extensions to add to your web browsers that can help block certain sites like the Kids Safe Web extension on Google chrome.

Our teachers have put in place some extra added level of controls when conducting class zoom meetings and have set guidelines to engaging in these meetings. Please continue the conversation with your child to remind them of the expectations.

This week's learning opportunity will assess students' understanding of the topics discussed in their RELA Zoom Meetings. The research project will be completed via a series of checkpoints over the next few weeks.

7th Grade Science-This week we will be focusing on ecology. Ecology is the study of how living things interact with each other and their environment. This includes living things (biotic factors) and non-living things (abiotic factors). Students will complete a choice board in google classroom. A choice board is a graphic organizer that allows students to choose different ways to learn about a particular concept. This week students will complete 4 activities from the choice board.

Math News
Algebra is continuing to work in their quadratic equations unit. Assignments, notes and videos will be linked in student’s Google Classroom from their assigned teacher. Just like in our traditional classroom setting students will continue to have lessons and assignments to support the completion of their classes. The Tuesday/Wednesday live ZOOM’s will provide students direct interaction with their teachers during their scheduled class time according to our campus Zoom Engagement schedule.
The following topics are being covered this week in Algebra:
Notes & Practice:
• Graphing Quadratics in Various Forms-Notes
• Graphing Quadratics in Various Forms-Guided Practice
Assignment:
• Khan Academy-Exercises
• Graphing Quadratics in Various Forms-Independent Practice (1-10)
6th Grade Math will be starting their geometry unit this week. Videos and assignments will be posted in their Google Classrooms. Students will learn to calculate area of rectangles, parallelograms, and triangles. 6th Grade will also be pushing out more information this week regarding our online IXL learning platform.
7th & 8th Grade Math will begin our use of IXL for continued math learning. An important first step for student’s growth in math is to take the diagnostic assessment in IXL so each student will have an individualized learning plan. It does not have to be done in one setting but can be done in multiple sessions. Additional directions for IXL will be shared with students this next week so they can get started. IXL is accessible through each student’s MyHumble account.
Please email your child’s teacher with any additional questions about math instruction or feel free to contact Amy Suchadoll, Math Academic Lead Teacher at amy.suchadoll@humbleisd.net
