Adapted Community Recreation

Columbia Parks and Recreation offers adapted recreation programs (Adapted Community Recreation), located at Stuart Parker Housing Development (formerly Paquin Tower), and is designed for individuals with special needs. The program is open to the community. Also offered, is Adapted Sports housed at the Activity and Recreation Center (ARC). If you wish to participate in any Parks and Recreation activity, yet feel you may need some special accommodation, please call the office.

Adapted Sports

The City of Columbia offers numerous sports to individuals with special needs. Competitions are through Special Olympics, however, competing is not required for participation. When you register, please be sure that your athlete has a current physical and release form. New participants must schedule a New Athlete Meeting prior to participation. To schedule a new athlete meeting, contact Jessica Sida.

September 7 and 20 are our surprise activities. You must come to the art room/office in Paquin Tower to find out what is planned ;) Also, for every Grab Bag! you participate in, you will receive $0.25 off B&G Breakfast! Must be used in same month.

Movies in the Park--Secret Life of Pets

Friday, Sep. 8th, 8:30pm

Max (Louis C.K.) is a spoiled terrier who enjoys a comfortable life in a New York building until his owner adopts Duke, a giant and unruly canine. During their walk outside, they encounter a group of ferocious alley cats and wind up in a truck that's bound for the pound. Luckily, a rebellious bunny named Snowball swoops in to save the doggy duo from captivity. In exchange, Snowball demands that Max and Duke join his gang of abandoned pets on a mission against the humans who've done them wrong.

Concessions will be available.

Saturday Ceramics

The art room will be open on September 9, 11 am-2 pm for arts and crafts.

Movie Matinee

Let's go out to the movies!! Join us on September 13 around 11 am for a flick and lunch afterwards. Time may be adjusted depending on when most of the movies start. Please have a current Rec Card and money for the movies and lunch.

Adapted Bell Choir

Learn how to play the melody chimes on September 18 at 3:30 pm. We'll meet in the lobby of Paquin Tower.

Dance at the ARC

Join us at the ARC for a fun night of great music and lots of dancing on September 22 at 6:30 pm. Snacks will be provided. Cost is $5.00 at the door and is located at 1701 W. Ash St. Columbia, MO 65203.

Farmer's Market

We'll go shopping at the Farmer's Market on September 23 at 8 am. Please bring your money and make sure you have a current Rec Card.

Cooking with Anna

Come join us in the Paquin kitchen area to discuss and sample easy and budget friendly dishes on September 25 at 5 pm.

Weenie Roast

On September 28 at 4 pm join us in Paquin Park to have a weenie roast and enjoy some music on the radio. Fee is $.50 per person.

Biscuits and Gravy

Breakfast will be served on September 29 at 9 am. B&G will be $2.00/plate.

Happy Hour Fitness (HHF)

Happy Hour Fitness is a small group that meets Monday through Friday at 3 pm to be more active.

Unofficial Paquin Movie Group

The movies are temporarily canceled because of a cracked T.V. screen. We will let you know when the new T.V. is installed!

Adapted Community Recreation Art Room

The art program is a walk-in program, and is open to the community. Participants are free to come and go as they please. The art instructor is usually available at 11 am Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. There is a studio fee of $2.00 for scheduled crafts and to cover craft materials.

Art Room Hours:

  • Mondays: 11 am-8:30 pm
  • Tuesdays: 11 am-4 pm
  • Wednesdays: 11 am-4 pm
  • Thursdays: 11 am-4 pm
  • Fridays: 11 am-4 pm
