TOP 10 CARDINAL CELEBRATIONS
2. Seniors ended their last day of high school on Thursday in their annual "senior send-off" fashion. Students had the opportunity to thank those who have helped shape them the past 4 years. Tears were shed, hugs given and once outside students were greeted with a nice cool down from the Clinton Fire Department and treats from the United Methodist Church. Go here to see pictures.
3. Congrats to the 19 Health Occupations students who recently passed their Certified Nursing Assistant exam. These Clinton Technical School students can now call themselves CNA's!
4. Shout-out to CMS Guidance Counselor, Sara Vaughn, who planned an amazing field trip for 120 7th graders. These students were exposed to non-traditional career options right here in our community. Thanks to the Clinton Police Department, Conservation Department, Clinton Early Childhood Center, GVMH, Henry County Courthouse, Jim Raysik's and the MU Extension Office for allowing our students to learn more about a career in their respective fields.
5. 63 Clinton Early Childhood Center students are official kindergartners now as they graduated from preschool on Thursday evening and are ready to head to Henry Elementary in August.
6. The Class of 2018 took a walk down memory lane today as they took part in the annual Grad Walk through the district's other school buildings. What a great way to motivate and encourage our younger students to take this walk themselves some day.
7. This week was National Teacher Appreciation Week. We have some of the BEST! Go here to read some of the great things people had to say about past and present CSD educators.
8. Approximately 300 moms, grandmas, aunts and family friends attended the 3rd annual Muffins with Mom event today at Henry Elementary. Thanks to the district's food service provider, Aramark, for providing 58 dozen muffins!
9. Wednesday was School Nurse's Day! The CSD is fortunate to employ 4 of the best nurses around. Our school nurses are some of the most caring, compassionate, knowledgeable and kid-loving people you will ever meet. Thanks to Rachel Vencill, Jana Matthes, Nichole Houk and Julie Balke for providing excellent care to our Cardinals everyday!
10. Congrats to CHS junior, Austin Gillund, who has earned himself the chance to compete in the State Golf Tournament!

It's a Great Day to be a Cardinal
The Influence of a Mother
Submitted by: Jill Ragan, Clinton Early Childhood Center Teacher and Director
On April 30th, CECC hosted its third annual Muffins with Moms day, and had the best attendance to date. With nearly 100% of the students having a family member in attendance, the families enjoyed activities that included planting flowers, creative arts, sensory play, and of course muffin eating. With Mother’s Day quickly approaching, it is a good time to bring to the forefront the influence a nurturing mother figure can have on a child’s life. According to an article found in Psychology Today, here are the top ten reasons why moms are so important:
1. If it weren’t for your mom, you wouldn’t be breathing right now. If nothing else, you should thank her for that.
2. Mothers are the emotional backbones of the family. They provide the holding place for everyone’s feelings and do their best to keep us from being hurt.
3. Who would kiss your boo-boos to make it all better if she weren’t around? Mothers have the magic touch (and kiss) to help us heal our wounds, physical and emotional.
4. Truly, our mothers worked hard and made sacrifices, so our lives would be better. There are not a lot of people willing to do that, so let her know you appreciate it.
5. Mothers are forgiving—so forgive her in return. Perhaps nothing will be as valuable a gift to both of you as forgiveness. Open your heart and drop your resentments. Now that’s love.
6. When you want to climb the tallest mountain, your mother will make your lunch for you. She is the one who will support your dreams when no one else will. She will also remind you to wear clean underwear.
7. Her boundaries made you a better person. You may not have liked some of her decisions, especially when you wanted to be with your friends, but she did keep you out of trouble.
8. A mother’s ears and eyes hear and see everything. They also have a computer-like memory for all the good (and some of the bad) that came your way. It’s nice to have someone with whom you can reminisce about your whole life.
9. Mom taught you to be a functioning adult. That was her job, and without that, making it through the modern world would be very hard. Your mom may have forced you to do your homework, but now you see how important it was.
10. A mother’s smile, when it is directed toward you, makes your day a whole lot better. All she needs is to know that she has helped you to be and feel your best. Say thank you.
Thank you to all our moms and mother figures! You are your child’s first and best teacher. When you think no one sees how hard you are working to do everything life demands of you, we do. Your children may not be able to recognize it now, but just wait. Life gave them you for a reason and in time with maturity, your children will grow to see how much they need and appreciate you.
