Seventh Grade Newsletter
December 14, 2014
Dear Parents,
Here's what's going on at school this week.
English
On Monday, we will be writing a final draft of a paragraph comparing the book and movie scenes from The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. We are also continuing to work on types of sentences. There will be a summative assessment in January. The class spelling bee is scheduled for Thursday.
Social Studies
Don't forget to check Edmodo for the weekly homework assignment.
Math
On Monday, students will take the Unit 2 Summative Assessment over expressions and equations. We reviewed this Unit last Thursday andFriday. On Tuesday, students will take a pretest on Ratios and Proportions (not graded) to start out Unit 3. Students will also start working with learning how to write ratios on Tuesday & Wednesday. On Thursday and Friday, Students will be learning how to create Equivalent Ratios.
Pre-Algebra
On Monday, students will begin the week learning how to write numbers in Scientific Notation. On Tuesday and Wednesday, students will learn how to convert between Scientific Notation and Standard form. Students will finish the week comparing numbers in Scientific Notation.
Science
Students are learning about the elements; the reason for their arrangement on the periodic table, why they have the names and symbols they have, and after choosing one... researching the background of the element by creating a fake Facebook profile for their element. Who would their element be "friends" with? When was it born? Discovered? Where does it live? What kind of pictures and posts would it have on its wall... and from who?
Please do not forget to bring in $5 for the ornament that we are making this week. It should be a ton of fun!
Rayder Renaissance
CMS students are participating in the Renaissance award program this year. Students can earn "coupons" daily if a staff member notices them doing something above and beyond! Students can earn front of the line coupon, a candy bar or homemade cookie coupon or even a coupon to get into a CMS sporting event free! Additionally, there will be a monthly activity for them to attend if they are passing all their classes, no more than one discipline referral and no unexcused tardies. Students who do not meet the criteria will be provided time with a teacher to get additional help they need.
From the Counseling Office
Parents who want to learn more about how to pay for college and what the process is are welcome to attend the Financial Aid night on Thursday from 6-7 (while their child is at the dance) at the middle/high school auditorium. Vicki from College Planning in Traverse City is speaking as well as Karrie Gaffney, our counselor.
Holiday Dance
A "dress-up" dance is planned for Thursday, December 18, 6-8 PM at the former middle school building.
Happy Holidays!
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! We hope you enjoy the holidays with your family. School resumes on Monday, January 5. See you in 2015!
Thank you!
As always, please let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions.
Sincerely,
