A Look Back and Ahead at Professional Learning at RBHS

Week 11 - Three Professional Learning Groups

Teachers in their Professional Learning teams will select from Emerging, Evolving or Exploring groups to begin exploration in learning walks and expeditions. Led by Avis Cunningham, Ron Bosch or Julie Painter, these groups will allow teachers to grow in their instructional practice over the second and third nine weeks.

Gators of the Week - Work hard. Get smart. Do good.

Gators of the Week: Varsity Football Team

Work hard. Congratulations to our Varsity Football players and coaches, whose hard work this semester has paid off in winning their final regular season game versus Irmo High School and qualifying for the 4A Division II playoffs for the first time in school history. The gators will travel to Goose Creek High School to compete on Friday night at 7:30 PM. A fan bus will be available for students. Please pay close attention to the announcements.

Gators of the Week: Thank a veteran this week!

Get Smart: All week in CREW, students will learn about the significance of Veteran's Day, and how important it is to show honor to all of our veteran's who served and are currently serving in our armed forces to protect our freedom. We will gather at the flag pole on Tuesday and spell out USA on Friday. Don't forget to wear Red, White and Blue on Friday.

Gators of the Week: CREW Service to Samaritan's Well - Ms. Colson's CREW

Do good. Ms. Coloson's CREW spent three hours at Samaritan's Well, a shelter for women and children in transition. They brought donations, washed the house van, organized their donation shed, cleaned up in the house and played with the kids. It was a great experience for the CREW to be able to have a hands-on experience with service and really see where items go when donated to an organization. After meeting the kids, the CREW has also planned on buying gifts for one of the kids for Christmas.

EL Design Principle in Action

The Having of Wonderful Ideas

Teaching in Expeditionary Learning schools fosters curiosity about the world by creating learning situations that provide something important to think about, time to experiment, and time to make sense of what is observed.

Students in Ms. Rose's AP Biology class were given such an opportunity. One to high light was Lauren Pearson, an 11th grader. She went above and beyond to create her Cellular Energetics Poster Book in the form of a grave! She kept with the theme throughout, including pages that could be removed from the grave- pumpkins, bats, skulls, candy corn, etc, all with information about photosynthesis and cellular respiration. Ms. Rose commented that this project was one of the best she'd seen in many years of teaching.
