W.I.N. - What I Need Time Pilot Set for Feb. 16 & 18

Our teachers have been hard at work during our delayed starts developing essential learning targets and common assessments to insure all students are achieving at high levels. On Feb. 16 & 18, we will be piloting a 30 minute common intervention time to assist students with what they need. The intervention time will be from 8:45-9:15 a.m. Each class will be 5 minutes shorter on that day to create this time. For some students, they might be struggling with an essential learning skill in Science, this 30 minute time slot will allow students time to work with their teacher in a small group. For others, they might need a quiet space to work on homework or a project. For those, who are currently proficient in all of their essential learning targets and who are not missing any homework, they have had the opportunity to sign up for an enrichment during that 3o minute time this week at lunch. The enrichment opportunities this time will be 3:3 basketball tournament, ping pong, cooking, Uno tournament, chess club, creating an assembly for our student body, knitting/crocheting, fitness club, computers and iMovie. We will pilot this concept again in March. If you have an enrichment skill you would be willing to teach our students, we would love to have you as a volunteer. Please feel free to contact us at 692-6199.

STEPS Summer Camp for Girls

Grand Valley State University is offering a Science Technology & Engineering camp for 6th grade girls this summers. STEPS (Science, Technology & Engineering Preview Summer Camp) is an all-girl day camp introduction to the world of science, technology and engineering. Campers participate in activities that give them hands-on experience with high-tech engineering equipment and processes. STEPS is an opportunity for girls to learn more about what engineers do in an informal, non-threatening, and fun environment. Program activities include designing, manufacturing, and flying a radio-controlled airplane. Students will also explore science and engineering topics while learning team building and other social skills. Participants will tour Grand Valley's engineering facilities and see several manufacturing processes. The cost for the full week of camp is $75. Scholarships are available. For more information, please visit http://www.gvsu.edu/steps. There you will find a printable brochure, applications, sample schedule, parent and camper testimonials and pictures. Space is limited. Applications are due to GVSU by March 11th.

Community Informational Night on Sinking Fund Millage

Tuesday, Feb. 16th, 6:30pm

Otsego High School Media Center

Come and meet with our Superintendent, Jeff Haase, and learn information about the upcoming Sinking Fund Millage.

Building & Site Sinking Fund Information

Otsego Public Schools is fortunate to have wonderful facilities that represent a great source of pride in the Otsego community; our facilities are used by groups across the region. Much of that is due to the voters' generosity passing a bond in 2004. Otsego was able to build a new, state-of-the-art high school, new athletic facilities and make significant upgrades to our other school buildings. It is important to us to maintain the pristine condition of those facilities, maintain that pride and continue to be a resource for organizations, fine arts groups and athletic associations. There are needed upgrades and repairs that did not fall into the 2004 bond projects that the district would like to address sooner, rather than later, so we can keep expenses down.

The repairs fall into three categories:

  1. Safety & Security
  2. Energy Efficiencies & Upgrades
  3. Site Improvements/Maintenance

We are looking at a Building and Site Sinking Fund to provide the financial resources we need without taking away funds from the classroom. Below, you will find several pieces of information related to this proposal.
