Workshop Meeting
Student and Staff Recognition
The following staff and students were recognized during the first hour of the meeting:
- PHS Choral Director Frank Anonia and Zachary K. Pearce, PSBA Eastern Region Member Relations Coordinator, recognized d Abby Kern, a PHS junior, who was selected as the Master Of Ceremonies for the Student Celebration Showcase held during the 2013 Pennsylvania School Board Association state-wide School Leadership Conference. Frank Anonia was a consultant for this year’s event.
All State Band, Chorus, and Orchestra teachers: Jason Lerew (band), Frank Anonia (chorus) and Karen Creeden (orchestra) recognized the following students:
All-State Band: Christopher Campbell, Mikaela Krim, Matthew Latshaw, William Wilkinson
All-State Orchestra: Kristie Budihardjo, Sung Hwan Park, Haley Schilla, Hannah Smith, Michael Wu
All-State Chorus: Hannah Hakim, Victoria Bartkavage, Ian Reilly
- Art teachers Richard Shemonsky and Linda LaDue recognized Dylan Lafferty and Cassandra Smith who both won National Scholastic Art Award silver medals.
- PHS art teacher Christopher Barrett recognized Graham Burrell who won First Place at the 2014 PA State Computer Fair for his digital movie:

- PHS Science teacher Loretta Igo recognized Kamal Bookwala for achieving a Perfect Score at the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science HS State Competition.
- SMS science teacher Dan Christman recognized SMS’s Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science MS Competition Perfect Scorers, Amanda Harman, Aryaman Khandelwal, Daniel Wilcox.
- SMS teacher Noel Mahmood recognized Pennsylvania State Middle School
Elementary Curriculum Supervisor Diane Neikam introduced LCTI teachers John Shaner and Vicki Phillips who told the School Board about their $30,000 Book Donation to the Parkland School District to support the summer library program and to benefit students in need. The donation was made possible thanks to a partnership they have formed with nonprofit organization FirstBook in the material handling and logistics department at LCTI.
Mr. Sniscak recognized the principals of SMS, Jaindl, Fogelsville and OMS for winning the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Academics which was given to schools that scored a 90% or higher on the 2012-13 School Performance Profile.
School Board President Roberta Marcus recognized Rob Cohen for his service as a trustee at LCCC by reading this resolution.
Business Meeting
Dr. Rod Troutman, Assistant Superintendent, read the mission statement at the opening of the meeting, Educating for Success, Inspiring Excellence.
Dave Kennedy commented that LCTI had a great awards night replete with lots of great student recognition. Bob Bold reviewed that CLIU reviewed a benefits contract and that a new staff contract was approved. Bob Bold was voted in to continue to serve as the President of the CLIU Board.
Rob Cohen reported on a library survey which noted that the community wishes it to align more with local schools. He has a meeting scheduled with the outreach committee and will help to interface with the library’s strategic plan and goals. He will serve as the School Board liaison to the library’s board of directors.
The Board and Mr. Sniscak wished all retirees an enjoyable and healthy retirement.
Roundtable
Barry Long and other school board members commented that the student recognition noted above is only possible thanks to the dedication of the teachers and administrators in the District. He also commented on the wonderful tech ed projects in the back.
Bob Bold mentioned he attended a few CLIU graduation ceremonies and was particularly moved by ceremonies that celebrated the achievements made by students with special needs. He commented that students who are graduating have learned job readiness skills and that some have already been placed with jobs.
Everyone thanked the PHS staff and students for a fantastic PHS graduation event.
