Principal's Challenge
USD Extended Care for Oster Students
I am happy to announce that, beginning October 5th, USD will offer Oster students the opportunity to attend USD Extended Care! The program will run on three campuses: Alta Vista, Guadalupe and Lietz…. and Oster students are welcome to join!
Please read through the information below, and if you are interested in registering your child(ren) for Extended Care, please fill out the Google Registration Form.
Here are some basics for our next session: (October 5 – 30) (Extended Care is closed on October 16 and 19 because these are non-school days.):
- Grade Levels: TK - 5
- Space Priority: Priority will be given in the following order: children currently enrolled; children of essential workers not currently enrolled; current Extended Care families, new registrations. A lottery will be used if space is limited.
- Times: 8am - 6pm, or 12pm - 6pm
- Location(s): Alta Vista, Guadalupe, and Lietz
- Price: The price for this session will be based on the chosen schedule. Please note that there is a $50/child (or $75/family) registration fee (if not already paid) in addition to the tuition noted below:
- 8am - 6pm: $1260 ($70/day for 18 days)
- 12pm - 6pm: $900 ($50/day for 18 days)
There will be no discounts given at this time. *If your family qualifies for the Free and Reduced Lunch Program, please contact Kristi Martik (martikk@unionsd.org) for financial assistance options.

*Special Note about Distance Learning: It is important to note that Extended Care will facilitate access to, and help support students with their distance learning. However, Extended Care is not able to provide tutoring or ensure that students will master concepts being taught.

The google form Registration is due by 11 am September 21. Spaces will be offered to families beginning September 28.

Introducing the Cougar Science Quiz!
Oster HSC is excited to offer a monthly science quiz starting Monday, September 28, 2020.
The quiz is open to grade levels 1-5, with 3 grade-appropriate quiz categories.
The quiz will take place on the 4th Monday of every month.
There will be monthly awards for the top 3 winners in each of the
3 quiz levels.At the end of the school year, the 3 best scoring students will receive STEM science kits for recognition of their work.

Free Online Math Tutoring
Leigh High School students in the Infinity Club would like to offer free one-on-one online tutoring in math for students in grades 1-5. Please click here for more information.
City of San Jose Art Contest
Calling all student artists! The City of SanJose Environmental Services Department is seeking student artists to participate in our Recycle Right Truck Sign Design Contest. Participants will create designs highlighting the importance of recycling in the City of San José.
Contest winners will have their artwork enlarged and featured on San José recycling and garbage trucks. Students attending San José public, charter and private schools (including home school and independent study students), grades K-12, are eligible to participate.

This workshop will be led in Spanish.
