Classroom Updates
It is so hard to believe we are already in March. Kindergarten students have learned so much! During the month of March, we will be focusing on writing and solving addition and subtraction number sentences. Students have already been practicing these skills using number bonds. In reading we will be learning about different seasons and they types of weather that are found during each season. Students will have exposure to different fiction and non-fiction texts to compare and contrast ideas. Kindergarten students have also been working on different types of writing. They just finished up narrative writing and will start working on ‘how to’ writing. We will also be focusing on the conventions of writing: starting a sentence with an uppercase letter, finger spaces in between words, punctuation marks at the end of a sentence and making sure their sentences make sense. We will also continue to encourage phonetic spelling. | First grade will continue reading and writing words with vowel teams and begin learning about r controlled vowels. In science, we will continue learning about animals, insects and plants. We are growing our own plants in the classroom and will watch and record as the plants grow. We are working on writing a paragraph with a topic sentence and key details. In math we are working on breaking apart numbers in order to get to a 10. | Second Grade is moving into Module 3 for math. We will be focusing on shapes as well as time with fraction components. Please continue to help your child by practicing math facts at home. We will also be continuing to work on our addition and subtraction skills from module 2. In reading we will finish unit 4 and begin unit 5. We will be looking at r controlled words, diphthongs, pronouns, sequencing, and synonyms. Our main writing topic will be biographies. Please keep reading with your child at home and make sure to practice spelling words! |

Hello Third Grade Families, March is going to be an exciting month! Your student will be learning about poetry, realistic fiction, and expository text in reading. We will be starting on state research projects in March! Also, we received some truly incredible bottle biography projects. We are excited to announce that these will be displayed on March 23, as part of the art show! If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher. | 4th Grade Families, Wow- it is hard to believe that it is March already! Your students should have been working hard and showing great growth this quarter. You should be very proud of them. We enjoyed watching them lead conferences this time around. They were able to explain our new 4 point grading scale, and reflect on what they have done so far in fourth grade; as well as set some goals for the rest of the school year. This quarter, we have dove deep into fractions and will continue to practice our fraction skills throughout the next month. We will also be learning about fossils and rocks in science. Additionally, we will be taking ELA and Math Illuminate the week of March 13. Please help your student remember to charge their computer nightly and bring it back to school every morning. This ensures all students are ready to learn! Don’t forget that Spring Break is from March 27-April 2. Students will return to school on Monday, April 3. Lastly, please keep an eye out for information regarding our upcoming 4th grade field trip to Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, which will take place at the beginning of May! As always, we thank you for your ongoing support. Love, your fourth grade teachers | Hello families!!! We were so excited to welcome back the kids from break! We missed them so much! Thank you to all of our parents who attended student led conferences! This month in 5th grade is very busy as we are getting our students prepared for middle school! We can’t believe the end of the year is so quickly approaching! In ELA, the genre we are working on is poetry and expository text. We will also continue to work with the students on writing skills to get them well prepared for the end of year testing. In math, we are finishing our unit working with fractions and will move into decimal place values. We continue to have our students work on explaining their thinking and showing their work on models. In science, we are continuing to explore Earth’s Four Spheres and will move into exploring Earth’s water! The kids love working hands on with labs which have helped to strengthen their understanding. Lastly, we are still working weekly on Essential Skills and getting stronger with organization and prioritizing!! As always, thank you so much for all of your continued support! Notes from the Nurse
A note from Nurse Janice!
As we begin a new school year, please see below for health information from your school nurse.
The health of your child matters!
WHEN TO KEEP YOUR STUDENT HOME FROM SCHOOL:
- When your child is so ill, they will not be able to engage and learn while at school.
- A temperature of 100.4 or higher. Students with a temperature of 100.4 or higher should stay home until they have gone at least 24 hours fever free without the aid of fever-reducing medication (such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen.)
- Vomiting. Students who have vomited should stay home until they have gone 24 hours without vomiting without the aid of medication.
COVID
- If your child tests positive for COVID, or if any member of your immediate household tests positive for COVID, please reach out to your school nurse.
- If your child is exposed to someone who is positive for COVID outside your immediate household, please reach out to your school nurse.
Your school nurse will guide you through the current guidance and expectations (Phone:719-382-1370)
HEALTH OFFICE VISITS/BLUE NOTES
- Students occasionally visit the health office for minor complaints and injuries. For these non-emergent health office visits, you will receive an automated dialer from the district (after school hours) notifying you that your child was seen in the health office. Your child should also bring home a health office 'blue note' from the school that shares some details of the health office visit.
- Parents will be contacted by the school nurse for any health office visit which would require the child to be picked up early from school, for any visits that require follow up medical care outside the school setting, or for any injuries that might require follow up by the parent once the child gets home from school.
