McGowen Elementary 1st Grade “Mini” Performance Information
What: A “mini” performance of Thanksgiving songs
Who: All 1st Grade students
When: Friday, November 20th during Mav Fan Jam, 8:15am
Where: McGowen Elementary Gym
**Please have your child bring sunglasses.

We can identify the beginning, middle, and end of a story by retelling.
We can identify main idea by listening to Literary Nonfiction.
Literary Nonfiction is text that is written in a narrative/fiction structure that provides true information.
Example: Biography and Autobiography
We can identify the main idea by explaining supporting details.
The Main Idea is what the author wants you to understand the most.
The main idea is _________.
A supporting detail is _______.
Word Work & Grammar
We are learning about pronouns. We can identify a pronoun and explain what noun it take the place of. Ex. he, she, we, me, I, them, & they.
Continuing with Compound Words and the 5 Jobs of "e" - learning how to read and spell words with an "e" at the end of the word.
We can write the beginning, middle, and end of a story.
We can use "Editing" and "Revising" to help become better writers.
We will learn how to solve word problems involving joining, separating, and comparing sets within 20 with unknowns as any one of the terms in the problem.
This week will focus on "separate start unknown"
Social Studies/ Science
We will I describe similarities and differences between past and present cycles by making a Venn Diagram.
We can explain the true meaning of Thanksgiving and why it is a holiday.
We can identify natural resources and explain why natural resources are important.
