The OWL Newsletter
Otto Petersen Elementary School
Springtime means taking the classroom outside.
Dear Families,
Thank you for your continued support and communication with our schools as we move into Quarter 4 next week. Our school district released a letter with information about what the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year will look like for elementary and secondary schools. I can speak for our 4th-6th grade staff and know that this stands true for our K-3 buildings as well: we miss our students and want the new-and-improved normalcy back. This has been such a difficult year and it continues to present challenges as we conclude the regular academic year. I want to give a heartfelt thank you for all who have altered employment schedules and home routines, changed child care, learned alongside your children, and adapted home functions in order to support the learning from home that has been required this year. I know that our community has felt these changes and impacts to every degree. We will continue to pull together to support each other and get through this pandemic, even as mandates and guidance changes.
Over the course of the next two weeks, there will be information coming from the district and school regarding possible summer programs and learning opportunities for students to prepare for next year. The bottom line is this: despite the extraordinary efforts and connections made by school staff, parents, guardians, siblings and family members, and outside entities, our students have not be "in" school since the mandatory closure last Spring. Even the greatest virtual models can't replace in-person and full-time instruction; we know this. Our Directors of Student Services and Student Achievement are working to develop possible summer programs to support students in closing some of the learning gaps that have developed over the last year and a half. They are also working to create a transition program to assist in having our students changing schools to develop a familiarity with their new buildings and teachers. Please watch for some of these opportunities in the weeks to come.
This Friday, April 9th is a grading day for all district staff. Progress reports will be sent home next week with feedback from your child's teachers and team at school.
Friday, April 16th is Spring Conferences. Your child's teacher(s) will be connecting with you to provide an opportunity for you to request a conference, or if there are concerns to be discussed, schedule a conference with you and your child for this day. These will be virtual or phone conferences, unless accommodations need to be made to support no internet-access or service at home.
Thank you again for your time and efforts invested into this academic year and we look forward to wrapping this year up in a positive way.
Respectfully,
Jenneca Crocker
