Winter Percussion Finishes 6th at State
The Scottsburg Winter Percussion traveled to Terre Haute South Vigo High School this past weekend to compete in the Indiana Percussion Association State Finals in Percussion Scholastic Concert A Class. Scottsburg was originally seeded 1st (top average of two highest scores from the season) and were originally scheduled to perform last in their class. However with prom the same night, Scottsburg had to perform first so that students could get back in time for prom. Regardless of the circumstances, Scottsburg gave an incredible performance of their show “Ville de Lumiére: City of Light” for the judges and were awarded their highest score of the season, an 87.700. Their score was good enough to finish in 6th place out of 22 groups, and was in the top 3 through 19 performance slots; quite an impressive feat! Congratulations to our students and staff on their State Finals performance!
The Winter Percussion will conclude their season next week at the WGI World Championships in Dayton, OH. Scottsburg will perform in Prelims competition on Thursday, April 19th at 6:33 pm ET at Northmont High School. Should they place in the top 6 of their class, they will advance to Finals competition on Friday night. If you haven’t seen the group perform this year, then please come to their Community Performance next Wednesday, April 18th, at 6 pm in McClain Hall. This will be their send-off and is free to the public. Congratulations on a great year! Best of luck at WGI World Championships!

Seniors put Twist on Graphing Econ
Mr. Sims’ AP Macroeconomics class got to enjoy the sun this morning. As a celebration of the first day with good weather this Spring, and in an effort to break the routine of drawing graph after graph on the whiteboard, the eighteen AP students got to embrace their inner kindergartener when they broke out the sidewalk chalk and breathed the fresh air.
Practice and more practice is what it takes to prepare for the AP exam. The subject for the day was foreign exchange and the students enjoyed the change of pace. Christian Smiley said, “It was a fun and interactive way to let off some steam leading up to the AP test.”
The seniors will take the AP exam for macroeconomics on May 16th at noon.
JV Winter Guard Wins Gold!
The Scottsburg Winter Guard Programs concluded their season this past weekend at the Tri-State Marching Arts Finals Weekend #2 at Ryle High School in Union, KY. The Junior Varsity Winter Guard put on a wonderful performance of their show and were awarded the Gold Medal in their division! The JV Guard had a slow start to the season in terms of learning the show, competing in their first contest of the season with only one minute and thirty seconds of show learned. They improved as the season went on and finished in fine fashion with a very well-deserved Gold medal. Congratulations to the students and staff!
The Middle School Winter Guard concluded their season at the same site as well, looking to repeat as undefeated Gold Medalists. Unfortunately, the dominoes didn’t fall in their favor by winning Gold, but they were awarded a very deserving Bronze Medal for their performance. Congratulations to the students and staff!
With the Gold and Bronze medals captured this past weekend, all three Scottsburg Winter Guards finished in the top 3 of their respective classes and captured a medal spot. The Varsity Winter Guard won the Silver Medal the previous weekend in their Tri-State Finals competition. Congratulations to all the students, staff, and directors on a fantastic winter guard season this year!
Football Team Works to “Conquer the Chaos”
Wednesday evening SHS football players, coaches, and managers were blessed with the opportunity to serve our community. Team manager, Madelyn Shelton, organized the project for a Scott County Partnership initiative in which she is highly active called “Conquer the Chaos.” Conquer the Chaos is a community where people empower each other to overcome barriers and become their best selves in order to live richer, fuller lives.
