Happy New Year!!!
The first of which is: Winter Sports!
Read on for all the details....
WINTER SPORTS - begins Monday, January 8th
Forms & a schedule have already been sent home, but here are the reminders for the day:
- Winter Sports days are Dress Down Days. This means: dress appropriately for whichever sport you are doing. If you are going to be on the mountain or will be outside at all, make sure you have enough layers to make be warm for the entire time.
- You MUST have proper outside gear to be outside. If we are concerned about your child's safety outdoors, they will be kept at school.
- Tae Kwon Do: children should dress in clothes that allow them to move with ease. Sweatpants, etc. are best. Please no jeans!
- All permission slips must be on file in order for children to participate. Permission slips are due, signed, in the office before your child(ren) leave. Without a signed permission slip, they will be kept at school.
- If your child(ren) are going to Mt. Snow, they MUST have a packed lunch on Winter Sports days! They will eat in the car on the way to the mountain.
- Mt. Snow students will meet in Rand Hall at 11 a.m. for departure, and eat their lunches on the way to the mountain.
- Mt. Snow students will leave Mt. Snow at 4 p.m. and be back at the school between 4:45 and 5 p.m. for pick up.
- All other students will follow their regular schedules until 11:30, at which time, the entire school will have lunch until 12 noon. At 12 noon, the students will get their gear, and go to the meeting place for their winter sport.
- All students except for Mt. Snow students, will be back at school by 2:45, ready for regular dismissal at 3:10.
Thank you!
We are looking forward to a wonderful year of Winter Sports.
Important- Invoice/Billing Information
Regarding November/December invoices:
Due to bookkeeper vacations and the holidays, November invoices did not go out in December.
For ease and clarity of communication, we will not be sending them out. Instead, you will receive one (1) invoice in mid-January that will have both November and December charges on it.
The office has copies of the November invoices on file, if you have any questions.
Thank you for your understanding!

Outdoor Attire
And yet, we're seeing many students walking into school without coats, hats, gloves, mittens, etc.
Please ensure that your student(s) have the proper gear to be outside. If the weather is warm enough, we WILL have outside recess, and they will not be able to participate without the proper attire.
For Middle/High School Students: they may not have outdoor recess, but they do have Community Service, walks to the Church for classes, etc. It is best to be prepared!
*If you are in need of winter gear, please take advantage of the Winter Clothing Swap by the front door (you don't actually have to put clothing in to take something out!) or let the office know. We are here to help!*
Catholic Schools Week!!!
It's hard to believe but Catholic Schools Week will be here before we know it! We are looking for some creative, crafty volunteers to help us transform four of our bulletin boards during the month of January in celebration of Catholic Schools Week. The 2018 Catholic Schools Week branding is: Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed.
A themed board for each of these words would be ideal! Let us know if you are interested in being a Board Benefactor! Thank you for sharing your talents with us! * All necessary supplies will be purchased by SMS.*
Catholic Schools Week book swap: Tuesday, 1/30/18 - Read-a-Thon!
The Catholic Schools Week Read-a-thon event is a student favorite! This year, we'd like to offer our families and students the opportunity to swap books to encourage a voracious appetite for reading! This year, please bring in books that are no longer in use in your home. We will set-up a book exchange in Rand Hall for students/families to access throughout the day! Please make sure all books donated are in Very Good to Like New condition. Please no water damage, ripped pages, ripped covers, etc.
Books can be donated in the office beginning January 2nd through Friday, January 19th. Thank you for sharing your library with our SMS community.
Volunteers Needed!
Come one, come all!!!!
Our Girls On The Run program is looking for volunteers for this wonderful state-wide, after school program. You don’t have to be a runner, just someone who enjoys inspiring and mentoring young ladies to be the BEST they can be!

Reminder: Free and Reduced Breakfast/Lunch Program
In case you didn't see the announcements at the beginning of the year, Saint Michael School participates in the National School Lunch Program. That means that we provide breakfast & lunch for students each day, and also that we offer the Free and Reduced Lunch Program.
You can apply for Free and Reduced Lunch Program at any point during the school year. If your financial situation has changed, or you forgot to apply at the beginning of the year: YOU STILL CAN!
Not only do these numbers help our families, but they also determine how much federal funding the school gets for Title I funds, which benefits many of our students. Please help yourselves, and our entire community, and apply today!
Box Top Competition - 2 months left!!!
Our all-school Box Tops competition began on November 1st!
The homeroom that collects the most Box Tops between November 1st and March 1st will be treated to a Spring Sundae Soiree (YES, with all the fixings!).
We have quite a way to go before we reach our annual Box Tops goal of $1,000.00 so keep on clippin'! Don't forget to ask friends & family to help out, too. Often they are happy to keep Box Tops for students.
Thank you!
Saint Michael School Family's Ducks seek loving home:
3 drakes and a female.
She still lays 3 or four eggs a week, given enough light stimulation, around solstice and now, with the light from a heat lamp in the coop. They live in a coop attached to a large run with old basins and sled saucers as water features. They don’t fly, not because they are clipped, but because they don’t know they can. 2 Swedes (male and female), 1 Rouen (male), 1 Cayuga (male). They have been together since they were a day old and it would be nice if they stay together.
Not for meat!
Please call 802-275-2678 if interested.
