Teaching Digital Citizenship
Our Character Counts trait for the months of September and October has been citizenship. As our students progress through elementary and prepare to enter the Middle School it is important for the adults in their lives to help them navigate the digital world that exists today.
Pacific Grove Unified School District has a couple of resources that will help parents guide their students as they begin to interact with technology.
First, PGUSD is proud to present Josh Ochs, founder of Safe, Smart, and Social who will be sharing his practical strategies for how we can guide students in making responsible choices when using social media. Open to all district parents and community members, this digital citizenship event will include timely and relevant information about the latest social media apps and their implications, and question and answer session, and free copies of Ochs’ latest book Light, Bright, and Polite . Please mark your calendars and join us in the Pacific Grove Middle School auditorium for this important presentation on Tuesday, Nov. 1, from 6:30-8 p.m.
Another useful resource is a link on the district’s website to Common Sense Media. This site provides reviews and ratings for movies, music, television shows, video games, and apps. Parents looking to find out more about the media their children are accessing can use this link to the site https://www.commonsensemedia.org/ or find the link at www.pgusd.org under the Ed-Tech menu.
Together, we can take steps to keep our students safe in our digital world.
