Women's History Month Resources

There is no aspect of our history as a country or society that can compartmentalize the role women have played in our triumphs and tragedies. Rather, we look to our teachers to rightly and appropriately weave into the context of typical readings and subjects the roles women have played and to give special notice when possible, particularly during March.

For families at home, I recommend diving into some of the resources at these websites to learn and offer your family more about the important women that have shaped important moments the resonate in our daily lives today:

Spring Break Calendar Reminder

The stretch between January and the end of March can feel long during a Chicago Winter. Kids cannot get out as much, this year faced the stress of Omicron, normal Winter illnesses take hold, and Spring Break looms. Even in typical years, students and staff can experience cabin fever with each other.

Spring Break is just 10 school days away and I know we will be glad for the time off before we return to finish the school year together.

Just a reminder:

  • Parent Teacher Conferences via ZOOM on March 23 & 24 (half days of student attendance)
  • Schools will be closed on March 25
  • No Student Attendance on Monday, April 4 due to a Teacher Institute Day

Multi Tiered System of Support (MTSS) Presentation - Watch It Again!

If you missed the February 8 ZOOM presentation on our developing Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS), don't worry. We recorded it.

This initial presentation is meant to provide a basic understanding about how we are using student learning data (tests and what teachers observe in classes and more) to determine how to best differentiate our support for students over time, including our development of a Viking Time period each week at both schools.

We look forward to offering additional presentations in the future, and we encourage you to watch this introductory presentation when you get a chance.

Ready Set Wilmette - Join the Discussion About Wilmette's Future

The Village of Wilmette is undertaken extensive community engagement as it develops a vision of its future. Part of this will be a public panel discussion with audience interaction on Tuesday, March 15 at Regina Dominican High School - at 6:30 p.m.

The topic is "Moving Towards a More Welcoming Wilmette: What It Means to Belong." All Wilmette residents are encouraged to attend.

Strategic Planning Update

If you have not seen the recent edition of The Vision that was delivered to every household, you saw our update on what has been accomplished regarding the development of our Strategic Plan, the blueprint that will guide our most important actions in the coming years.

To recap:

  • The Board reviewed results from a District Survey of hundreds of stakeholders (click here for that survey report)
  • The Board reviewed our consultants' Global Findings Report identifying strengths and areas of improvement for the District (click here for that report)
  • The Board reviewed an analysis of the District's Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities & Threats (SWOT) completed by the Strategic Planning Committee
  • A DRAFT Portrait of a Graduate was sent to stakeholders for feedback. That survey can be found by clicking here and will close on Thursday, March 17.
