Let's Recap the 2019 School Year!
Sunrise Academy- Building A brighter Future
Sunrise Academy is on its way to making record breaking-headlines!
As the 2019 year comes to an end and as I reflect on the last couple of months, I can't help but feel a sense of pride and gratitude for the amazing accomplishments of all our students and staff. The start of this school year was a true testament to our "make a way or find a way" attitude! With our STEM accreditation underway and the grand opening of the first Islamic high school in Central Ohio, Sunrise Academy is on its way to making record breaking headlines!
Teachers worked extensively to ensure student creativity shined through and brought learning to life through their informative presentations and creative role plays such as the Wax Museum and Muslim Contribution Month presentations. Each grade level culminated learning with a variety of engaging field trips. Finally, the PTO was intricately involved in increasing student and family engagement through the Student Publishing Shop, monthly family events and potlucks.

STEM Accreditation and Project based Learning
This year Sunrise Academy moved to new heights and we took learning to a whole new level! It all began when we decided to begin working on our STEM accreditation which led to a shift in the way we teach our students. We moved from traditional teaching to the integration of WBT (Whole Brain Teaching) and PBL (Project Based learning). Through PBL, students enjoy the high levels of engagement and learning by working on projects that solve real-world problems or complex questions. During the second half of the year, they will demonstrate their knowledge and skills by creating a public product or presentation for a real audience. As a result, students will develop deep content knowledge as well as critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and communication skills which will ultimately lead to higher performance in their educational settings and careers.
Check out the article written about Sunrise Academy, which highlights the work our students are doing in PBL! To view the article, click here!
Check out some more highlights below!
PBL with Kg and 1st Grade
Students explore the driving question: How can we revive our school garden, take care of it over the summer and make it beneficial to the local community?
As a part of their research, we invited an expert on gardening to the classrooms!
Students will fix an existing garden and build a greenhouse structure to produce a functioning greenhouse, the product of which can be shared with the local community via local food banks and charities.
PBL with 2nd and 3rd Grade
Students work on their PBL project called "Behind the Picket Fence." The purpose of the project is to inform others about the Sunrise Academy community. They will work together to create a final product to share with their classmates, the school, and people outside of the Muslim community (neighbors around SA, the Community/Senior Center).

CCP Middle and High School Information Session
ATTENTION 6TH-9TH GRADE FAMILIES,
Great News! Through our partnership with Columbus State Community College, we are now offering our 7th - 10th graders the opportunity to register for the College Credit Plus Program (CCP) for the 2020-2021 school year.
Through the College Credit Plus (CCP) Program at Columbus State, students in grades 7-12 can take Columbus State classes and earn both high school credit to satisfy graduation requirements, and college credit that will be on their Columbus State transcript. Many Columbus State courses transfer to any public college or university in Ohio, and also transfer to many private institutions, as well.
For those interested, on Monday, January 13th, Sunrise Academy will be hosting a mandatory Middle and High School Information Session for students and their parents attending grades 7th-10th for the 2020-2021 school year. The session will take place in the Sunrise Academy Gymnasium from 4:30pm to 5:30pm.
The session will include information about our College Credit Plus Program through Columbus State Community College and the required admission and placement testing steps.
