An earthquake is a fault caused by the movement of tectonic plates. The three types of earthquakes are convergent, divergent and transform. The largest magnitude of an Earthquake is 9.0. The largest earthquake in history was in the city of Valdivia in Chile, it recorded a magnitude of 9.5 and destroyed more then 6000 homes destroyed and killed more then 1500 people.
