Belmont Elementary: A PAWSitive Place to Learn!

USD 232 has been an important and strong participant in the Kansas Teacher of the Year Program for many years. De Soto has had fifteen state finalists and twelve semi-finalists represented in the program since 2000.

We would like for you to nominate any teacher whom you consider to be an outstanding and effective educator and whom you or your child has had as a teacher. This person must have completed 5 years of teaching with at least 2 of them having been in USD 232. If there is a USD 232 educator whom you believe to be outstanding and deserving of special recognition, please fill out the nomination form at . This form needs to be completed by 4:00 PM on January 13, 2021.

YOU are Invited to Conferences on 2/15 or 2/16!

Click here to choose your date and time preference. We will make every effort to meet with you during scheduled conference days. If you are unavailable during these dates, we will try to find a time during a school day, but flexibility will be key!

2022-2023 Yearbook Orders are OPEN! Don't Miss Out!

We are creating so many memories this school year and if you may want to have a permanent copy of our year! If so, please visit and enter code 74535Z to get to the order form. The deadline to order is Friday, March 10th. Doing so guarantees that your child will have a yearbook on yearbook signing day the last week of the school year. We do generally get a few extra copies to sell in May, but there is no guarantee that we'll have enough available. Yearbook orders are definitely optional, but if you want to opt in, the time to do it is before March 10th!

Kindest Kansas Citian Contest Opportunity for Student Participation

Every year students have the opportunity to participate in the Kindest Kansas Citian contest. Student participation is optional. It is a one-page drawing (K-2) or essay (3-5) demonstrating the positive impact the nominee has made on the student’s life, written by the student. Contest judges are looking to identify kind acts that come from the heart. Students will discuss the contest briefly during their January 9-13 counselor lesson, but no paperwork will be sent home; all information is available right here in the Paw Print.

The entries must be submitted online through the link below, and is best done at home due to information needed, such as parent phone number, email address, and nominee’s full name. The submission will be the responsibility of the parent/guardian or the student. The contest’s due date is Friday, February 17th. : Belmont will have a slideshow to honor all of the students and their nominees. If you have a photo of the nominee you would like to be included in the slideshow, please email it to Miss Arbaugh. Kind people don't do kind things to be recognized for their actions, but it's still nice for them to know that they've made a difference in someone else's life.

If you have any questions, please let Miss Arbaugh know:

AND....your child brought home a Bulldog Bank Challenge 2023 container this week! If you've been here awhile, you know that we used to send home bottles to collect change, all of which supplemented our student field trip and classroom Learning Expeditions activities. That generally occurred around Bulldog Dash time. We chose to skip the bottles in the fall, but scroll back through old Paw Prints and you'll be reminded that we said we might pull them out later in the year if we didn't meet our Bulldog Dash goal. Well....tada! It's later in the year and here comes your brand spanking new and improved Bulldog Bank! Please help your child to neatly write their name and their teacher's name, let them decorate with stickers or sharpies and then encourage them to look for spare change to fill their bank! ALL of the money collected will go DIRECTLY back to STUDENT activities! Yay!!

From the Nurse

THANK YOU to everyone reporting your child's symptoms when they're feeling puny! Because the Health Department always asks about diagnosed cases of Influenza A, B, RSV and Covid, knowing if you've identified your kiddo's virus is helpful. Most people don't even realize that we've always had to report those numbers. Thank you and stay well! Wash those hands, people!

We're Here to Help!

It's clear that the cool thing to do is come to school in shorts and a t-shirt when it's 30 degrees outside. Fine. The natural consequence for this choice is being cold...and potential frostbite.

If, however, your child is not quite prepared for colder weather because your family could benefit from a hand up in the form of coats, hats, gloves, shoes....PLEASE don't hesitate to reach out. We're here to help and happy to quietly do so. Call or email anytime.

Preparing for Winter Weather

Now is a good time to review plans and be prepared this winter for when our school district cancels or delays school due to inclement weather or other emergencies. Information is communicated in the following ways as soon as a decision is made.

  1. Sent via text message through our schoolNEWS Alert System. Sign up for text message alerts.
  2. Posted on the front page of the district’s website.
  3. Local television stations (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC)
  4. Social media - Follow @usd_232 on Twitter

Again, this is just a reminder to be prepared this winter. Read more about inclement weather procedures.
