Homecoming is a time to announce your Lake Shore pride. And after you’ve graduated, it’s a time to return to Saint Clair Shores and reminisce about your school days. Lake Shore Public Schools would like to share our Spirit Week, allowing our students ample time to consult with friends and family and prepare outfits accordingly for the week of September 18th-24th themed The Roaring 20s.

The Junior vs. Senior Powderpuff game will be held on September 18th at 5pm. Prior to the game, beginning at 11am, Hall Decorating will occur at Lake Shore High School.

Join us at our Homecoming parade on Friday, September 23rd beginning at 6pm. It will start at Kennedy Middle School, follow Greater Mack, and end at Lake Shore High School.

The kickoff for our Homecoming football game against the Cousino Patriots will be on Friday, September 23rd at 7pm. During halftime, our Homecoming Court will be announced.

Our dance will run from 7:00 to 10:00pm on Saturday, September 24th inside our gymnasium. There will be no presale tickets; All tickets will be purchased for $10 each at the event. Guest passes are located inside the main office.

The Lake Shore Public Schools' Board of Education approved a $66.7 million no tax-rate increase bond proposal for the May 3rd, 2022 ballot and it passed!

Lake Shore Public Schools, in partnership with Chartwells Food Services, provides healthy meals to all children. Families can use our Nutrislice app for access to menus.

You asked, we listened! Introducing Family Portal by Meal Magic for all things Food Service such as making deposits, transferring between students, viewing account history, setting daily spending limits or other restrictions!

Even though the Federal Government has discontinued free meals to all children, Lake Shore Public Schools is seeking to obtain completed Free and Reduced Meal Applications from all families; It is important to receive these applications in order to attain the maximum amount of federal assistance for other programs (outside of free meals) that greatly benefit our students and families such as school funding, technology funding, SAT, ACT, and AP test discounts, college application discounts, athletics, grants, and instructional support programs.

Our districtwide 1:1 Chromebook initiative is designed to cultivate learning. We are excited to distribute upgraded devices to all students this year!

Chromebooks run the Google Chrome operating system, a lightweight OS that is designed to run apps over the web. The devices are protected from viruses and managed by the district through a central web console. These computers allow access to anytime, anywhere, anyway learning, and allow students to build technology skills and responsibility in a safe and caring environment. Under the guiding principles of our districtwide initiative, the Positivity Project, the #PositivityInAction mindset is our top priority. Because of our goal to inspire students to build positive relationships and become their best selves while recognizing that our virtual and hybrid learning models feel like relationship obstacles, we invite you to follow this Positivity Project Calendar.

This calendar outlines all 24 character strengths, 1 highlighted per week. Our teachers create engaging and impactful lessons — differentiated by grade-level — and share through presentations, student recognitions, classroom discussions, and building-specific displays.

Looking forward, our upcoming character strengths are CURIOSITY (9/19-9/23) and TEAMWORK (9/26-9/30).

Our teachers know the importance of establishing routines and demonstrates her procedures by explaining, modeling, practicing, implementing, and reviewing them. In elementary morning meetings, they share the daily agenda and reinforce procedures, making those routines a habit and putting trust in the process. This creates a class community and builds relationships.

Across the district, students were assigned getting to know you activities during the first week of school.

In Mrs. Crippen, 5th grade teacher at Masonic Heights Elementary, David Keenan, Liam Mitchell, and Kaleb Starks shared a memorable event and personal hero. Stories about a family vacation to Disney World, visiting grandma in Georgia, and a baseball tournament in Petoskey were revealed. Although these were all different spots on the map, their heroes are called by the same name: Mom.

Using a ball of yarn, students in Ms. Salem's 1st grade class at Violet Elementary revealed information about themselves in a fun way that required both active listening and speaking skills.

Mrs. Husek posted student responses to the question, "What kind of 5th grader will you be?" In reflection to those answers, she said, "Well, this is a lovely class! I’m so excited to spend a school year with them. My favorite kind of people are kind (and funny) people and it looks like I found them!"

We are appreciative of your support, patience, and flexibility as we continue to introduce ourselves to our community of learners.

We wanted to share a tradition that began in 2018: Senior Painted Parking Spots.

Having your own parking spot is a rite of passage. For the fourth year, our Lake Shore High School student drivers had the opportunity to paint and personalize their parking space. From career goals to personal passions, our students have brought whimsical Lisa Frank-inspired colors and designs to our student lot.

Senior Gracie Arnold's fun spirit is reflected in her painted spot. She chose a cow print with the tagline Moo Over as her vision. "I wanted to have a reserved spot so I didn't have to arrive super early to park close to the entrance." Her dad, Rusty Arnold wrecked his orthopedic Vans by applying the base coat. Now that's dedication to the cause! Monica Bezel also secured assistance from friend Jamie Owens to make her design come to life. Monica said, "She's the creative one so I knew her help would be necessary."

In 2022, all 60 parking spots have been claimed! Thank you for your participation, Seniors. This post reflects a small sample of those painted spots. If you want to see more, visit us!

Bonus: Thank you to North Shores Nutrition located at 31547 Harper, St Clair Shores for dropping off 75 teas to help students fuel as they worked on their spaces.

Before anything else, preparation is the key to success. School supply boxes were delivered, floors received a fresh coat of wax, Chromebooks, cords, and cables were inspected for quality insurance, and continuous landscaping enhancements increased overall aesthetics; These are staple parts of the planning process for every new school year. But for a teacher, intention begins with classroom setup.

Upon entry, but not before a variety of morning greeting choices such as air hug, wave, or thumbs up, students noticed classroom layouts to maintain social distancing. Carefully crafted getting to know you activities and a simple surprise or two lay neatly on desks. Bulletin boards displays, both in traditional and digital forms, adorned the walls to convey information and encourage participation.

There were books, folders, P2 sightings, all meticulous placed for ease of access and understanding. It was as if our staff, in addition to Teacher Education degrees from higher education institutions, also earned Interior Design endorsements.

April Gardner, Social Worker at Lake Shore High School, spent a portion of the $100 given to her by the Lake Shore Foundation on supplies for her office. She said, "As a new employee, I am grateful I was able to buy the supplies I need to better help the students at Lake Shore."

Thank you for making first impressions that last well beyond this Week 1 moment. We also appreciate families like Angela Patton and her daughter Sam who showered us with Chalk Cheer! In addition, painted rocks were found around the grounds of Masonic Heights Elementary!

The sky is not the limit. Your mind is.

On September 6th, we welcomed all students to the Shorian Nation with warm greetings, organized learning spaces, and opportunities to engage with our learning communities.

The first day of school was certainly a busy one. But with all of the excitement, it is one of the most ideal days to catch on social media! Please share your child’s eagerness for the 2022-23 school year by posting your first day of school photos and tagging #myLSPSFirstDay.

Athlete of the Week recognitions are returning this year! Coaches will share why an athlete deserves to be “Athlete of the Week”. It could be about how they perform on the field/court or how they excel in the classroom. They can also share with us how your nominee contributes to their community.

Lake Shore will introduce a new turnover swag-tastic LS necklace that will be temporarily given to the AOTW for a photo op as well a feature on our website.

Rules:

-Athletic Coordinator Rich Bowers makes the final decision on the AOTW.

-Once nominated, the athlete stays in the nomination system through the rest of the school year.

-No limit on the number of submissions sent from each coach, but one form must be filled out for each nomination.

-Varsity, junior varsity and freshman submissions are all welcome.

-Once an athlete wins, they can’t win again within the same school year.

Athlete of the Week: Kaylee Faircloth

Congratulations to AOTW Kaylee Faircloth, a junior base and tumbler on the varsity cheer team at Lake Shore High School. Coach Toarmina had these powerful, encouraging words to say about her:

"Kaylee has proven that she is going to be a driving force and leader to our team this year. She spent the summer motivating her teammates by being a hard worker to gain new tumbling and stunting skills, as well as making sure her teammates feel like one family. She has taken on a challenging course load this year and is dedicated to making it a successful academic year as well. The coaching staff is really proud of her progress."
