A Message from the Principal
Greetings,
It’s hard to believe there are only two weeks before spring break! I think both students and staff are anxious for the break, especially so everyone can get well. This is a good time of the year to remind ourselves of the importance of sleep, nutrition and good hygiene habits. As much as I love having students here everyday, if they are sick keep them home. Here is a snip from the handbook as a reminder:
Students should not attend school if they have experienced vomiting or diarrhea in the past 12 hours. They must be fever-free, without the aid of medication, for 24 hours before returning to school. Please remember to call the school and report students’ absences if they are ill, or send a note defining the illness upon their return. If a student vomits after leaving home, has diarrhea, or has a fever of 101degrees or above, the student will be sent home per school policy.
Our third grade students will be taking the IREAD3 practice test next week and the actual test the week of March 18th, right before spring break! Please make sure your child is here on time each day. It will be unlikely your child can test with his/her class if they get off schedule. Please be sure you’ve read the letter and information I sent home and contact me with any questions. Have a great weekend everyone!
Sincerely,
Nikki Harrison
Nurse's Station
Maple Parents/Guardians,
I recently accepted an offer as School Nurse at Avon Intermediate East. The decision to leave my position at Maple was not an easy one. I want to take a moment to thank you for trusting me with the care of your children. My hope is that I have done well by all of you. I believe that the relationship between a nurse and her patient/student is a sacred one and I hope I have honored that belief. I will miss seeing your children every school day but can assure you Mrs. Harrison and Mrs. Wright (HRH) have filled my position with someone who will care for your children as I did. Your new nurse and I will be transitioning into our new positions after spring break.
With Gratitude,
Mrs. Adams
Counselor's Corner
A Message from Your School Counselor
I have been talking to all of our kiddos about empathy in classroom lessons recently. I truly believe that the ability to discern and respond effectively to the feelings of others is one of the most powerful tools we can give our children. I would encourage you to have a family discussion about empathy and how you can demonstrate it in your home.
Right after spring break, I will begin my last round of small groups for the year. Now is the time to sign up! I will be offering groups on social skills, impulse control, dealing with worry and family dynamics. Contact me if you feel your child could benefit.

Spring Forward!!
A Message from Mrs. Kendall, Title 1/EL Teacher
Dear Families,
Hard to believe that Spring Break is almost here! Keeping students engaged during long breaks is a great way to ensure they return to school ready to learn. Students will be receiving a Spring Break Challenge on Friday March 22nd. Participation is optional but I would love for all of our Maple students to participate! If your child decides to participate, have them return the completed challenge to their teacher on April 8th. All completed challenges will have the opportunity to enter a drawing for various prizes. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Yael Kendall
