DECEMBER 2023
TAP FAMILY AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2023 🦘
The month of December was a busy month for our staff and students! We had six December graduates who were working hard to complete their classes. We celebrated them with an assembly and lunch on December 15th, and TUSD graduation on December 19th. We look forward to celebrating with your student upon graduation!
Toddler and infant nurseries made gingerbread cookies in Joey Crew as part of Advisory. This activity supports babies to explore new sensations, develop fine motor skills and enjoy holiday traditions with their teachers and parents!
This winter holiday elves were busy at work, collaborating with staff, community members and groups, and non-profits to create a winter gift for our students and babies. We hope that our caregivers, students and babies are able to experience some joy and rest over the winter break!
PARENTING YOUR YOUNG PARENT 🦘
Each month we will be sharing reflections, questions or tips from or for our caregivers and parents who are raising young parents.
We heard from a parent of one of our December grads, and grandparent to 3-year old Aleena. For those who are new to raising young parents, she gave several pieces of food for thought and advice:
- The power of texting: Young people share their thoughts and feelings more readily via text.
- Use ALL of your resources: TAP has many resources to help your young parent. Asking for help from the resources available is essential.
EMOTIONAL WELLNESS 🦘
It is really difficult to decrease stress during the holidays (and throughout the year). Financial strain, family conflict and pressure for perfection are hard! One thing to support your emotional wellness is to find one minute, just one, to notice what is bringing you joy. As you notice that one thing, pay attention to how joy feels in your body.
