A Message from Principal Bame
Dear LPE Families,
We hope you are having a lovely start to the week. I want to pause and invite you to join me in thanking our teachers and staff for perservering during an already challenging school year. Not only are they working hard to maintain the health and safety of students, they continue to work longer hours under more stressful circumstances. However, despite the challenges, they remain committed to our children and each other. At Laurel Park, we are grateful for our teachers, staff, and the support of our parents, caregivers, and greater community!
Please take a moment to review several updates and notes below:

September Music Notes from Mrs. Sonstroem
Lots to celebrate in our music classes!
Check out this brand new Quaver Teacher's Voices article, "Music Builds a Bridge to Learning and Discovery," featuring Mrs. Sonstroem's classroom!
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, several classes in the upper grades are learning about composer Clarice Assad and connecting the music with their community, world, and cultural elements. Musical elements such as rhythm, meter, melody, and expressive qualities are also explored in this piece from Brazil. "Sin Fronteras" means "Without Borders" and this composition represents a musical journey from the tip of South America to the Northern Hemisphere, weaving in elements from cultures along the coasts.
Get ready for cooler weather with Baté, Baté, Chocolaté! Younger grades have been learning this fun song about hot chocolate. Yum! Look for more fall favorites to come!

Back to School: How to Help Your Child Manage Stress & Anxiety and Thrive this School Year
Tuesday, September 21
7:30-8:30pm
Transitioning back to school in a time of physical distancing and masks is hard. It can be stressful and anxiety provoking for students and parents alike. With schools opening up for in-person learning again, it is increasingly important for parents and guardians to be attuned to their child’s mental health and wellness. Parents and guardians can help children by planning the transition, making strong connections, and re-establishing routines. With the right support and access to local resources, children can adjust, make new friends, learn new things, and thrive socially and emotionally. Dr. Laura Politte will discuss the broad impact of COVID-19 on mental health, how to recognize the signs of anxiety, and share strategies parents can easily use to support their children’s mental health as they transition back to school.
Spanish translation will be provided.
