Patterson's Perspective
Grizzly Families,
What a wonderful week of celebrations it has been! We kicked off with the Senior Awards ceremony Monday night, followed by our graduation ceremony at DU on Tuesday. Congratulations to the Class of 2023 and a huge thank you to all who contributed in making graduation the amazing event that it was. Be sure to read the rest of this newsletter to learn about all of the other exciting things that have been going on at ThunderRidge.
Next week our underclassmen will close out their school year with final exams. Please see the schedule below for details on that. The students will have Access Tuesday morning if they need to visit with any teachers for help before their exams. Parents, please remain diligent in checking your students' grades and supporting them as needed.
AP and IB exams are wrapping up today. Thank you to all that assisted with the testing process.

SAC Survey
Hello ThunderRidge Families,
As we close out the school year, your School Accountability Committee is interested in your feedback. We invite you to take a couple of minutes to fill out this very short survey that asks you to tell us what TRHS does best. We will be using it as a starting point to quickly gauge what families see as our school’s greatest strengths.
You will need an email address to access the survey but it will not be collected. The survey is anonymous.
Thank you so much for supporting our community and the continued work to provide an excellent experience for all our Grizzlies!
With appreciation,
TRHS SAC
Moving or attending a school other than TRHS for the 2023-24 school year?
If your child will be attending another high school for the 2023-24 school year, please notify Tiffany Klenke, Registrar, at tklenke@dcsdk12.org as soon as possible. The withdrawal paperwork will be started and instructions on returning books, paying fees, etc will be explained. Following this process will allow for a smooth transition to the new school.
IB Update
As a second thought this week, we wanted to keep all of you in the loop regarding the rising group of IB Seniors this summer. As a part of their study in Theory of Knowledge the students will be reading "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho. This is part of Mr. Risner's style of teaching TOK where he has students read a different book every summer that he thinks will change the way they view the world. If you would like to read "The Alchemist" with the rising IB Seniors to see how it changes your view we would challenge you to do so. If you are an avid reader and would like to read one of the books from past years you could also check out:
- "A Thousand Splendid Suns" by Khaled Hosseini
- "Evicted" by Matthew Desmond
- "Perfume" by Patrick Suskind
- "The Girl With Seven Names" by Lee Hyeon-Seo
- "Being Mortal" by Atul Gawande
- "Collapse" by Jared Diamond

2023-2024 Lend A Hand School Supply Drive
The Foundation for Douglas County Schools is excited to kick off the 2023 Lend A Hand School Supply Drive for our students of DCSD! Through the generous support and donations provided by our community partners, schools, local organizations, volunteers and businesses we were able to provide over 1,850 age appropriate backpacks and school supplies to our students K-12th grade in 2022. Let's do it again in 2023!
We will also have two days for teachers to come by and pick up donated classroom supplies in August!
This year we are also adding an additional ask of our supporters for supplies for our NEW teachers to the district!
- The 2023 Lend A Hand Backpack REQUEST application will went LIVE on Monday May 15, 2023. All backpack REQUEST applications must be submitted on-line on the FoundationDCS.org website.
- Student Backpack Pick Up dates and locations - When your families apply for an age appropriate backpack for their student, they will be asked to select a pick up location that is most convenient for them. We will send email confirmations and reminders. Pickup dates will be Tuesday July 25, Saturday July 29 and Monday July 31, 2023. We will identify one additional pick up site that will be available the first week of August - location tbd. Attached you will find a printable flyer to share with parents and students with directions on how to request a backpack/school supplies for their student.
- Teacher Supplies Pick up dates and locations - August 2, 2023 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm - NEW TEACHERS to the district will be invited to pick up donated supplies and on August 3rd from 3:00pm to 6:00pm ALL DCSD TEACHERS will be invited to pick up complimentary classroom supplies for the new school year (location TBD).
School Supply Drive - Donations are always welcome! The Foundation for DCS is partnering with the Douglas County Libraries and several local businesses and they will have collection boxes from June 1st through July 14th. Find a location near you on our FoundationDCS.org site. We will also have a collection box at the DCSD Wilcox building in the main lobby. Attached you will find a printable handout to share with a list of the most needed items.
Volunteers are welcome! It takes many hands to support this drive! Sign up as a volunteer HERE and join our efforts in supporting the kids and families of DCSD.

Funds raised through the sale of these bricks will go directly back to improving facilities for our students. Portions of the funds can also be given to the club/sport/activity of your choice, just choose which organization you would like those funds to go to and we will take care of the rest.
