E-Learning Update and Check-In
Dear BVM Families,
First, allow me to thank all families who have been in constant communication and checking the work of their students during this time. I hope that everyone is safe, healthy, and trying to stay sane. I want to reiterate that if any family is struggling financially or there has been a change in the home to please let me know. There are two food pantries that are connected to our school-The Mission of Our Lady of Angles and St. Francis of Assisi. Moreover, if a new plan for tuition collection needs to be made due to any financial changes please let me know so we can defer payment plans. Our main focus is on making sure all students are safe, healthy, and learning. I have been trying to stay in contact and respond quickly to any parent who had reached out to me, so if anything is needed, please let me know.
To assist families who have not had access to technology, we are providing the rental of a Google Chromebook for children in grades 5th-8th who will have live lessons with teachers beginning next week. In order to be on the list for the Chromebook rental, a direct e-mail needs to be sent to me and a designated time will be given with further instructions. We are being very strict with this policy since we do not want families leaving the shelter in place order for any reason and we do not want to jeopardize the health of other families. If you are a parent of a student in grades Preschool-4th grade and need a packet printed, although all work can be done on a separate paper, you may also e-mail me directly for further instruction.
Given that the shelter in place has extended until April 30th, I want to remind families of three facts.
- Maternity BVM will not reopen until it is deemed safe by the CDC, WHO, and government officials. E-Learning will continue until our return to school, please see the schedule below for further information on when teachers will be hosting live lessons or prerecorded lessons beginning 4/20/2020.
- No new work will be given during Spring break, instead, we want families to make sure all previous student work had been completed, take this as catch-up time. Spring break will also be used for teachers to plan and record lessons for the remainder of the month. Most importantly, we want families to spend time together. We encourage families to still read together and use any extra resources given if they are looking for more educational experiences.
- All standardize testing has been waived for the year, but teachers are still grading work that is being completed by students. It is vital that each student complete the work assigned, watch the prerecorded lessons, and attend all life lessons. We are keeping a record of which students are completing work and in need of support. We want to make sure all grading is helping students and that their learning is not regressing, it is very important that if parents or students notice a struggle in their lessons to please reach out to the teachers for support. Teachers have offered one-on-one sessions at a separate time to support students.
The most important mandate that I have explained during my weekly faculty meetings is COMMUNICATION. Teachers have been experimenting with how each student learns best during this time and how to still deliver whole group instruction. Nationwide this is a new way of schooling and we are all trying our best. I am highly encouraging families to also keep with communication with the teacher if you are struggling in any way. We want families to know that even though we are not together, we are still a family and here to support you. Lastly, we do have Earth Day shirts that were preordered. If you are interested in picking them up, the school will be open from 9 AM-2 PM this Friday. Please call ahead of time to confirm the pick-up.
We have been keeping up positive energy on Facebook and Instagram to keep in touch with families and keep everyone smiling. Teachers have been posting photos, families have been posting photos, and we have weekly themes to keep the BVM community connected during this time apart. I miss the students and staff dearly, I have tried to jump on as many Zoom calls as possible to just see their faces. As a parent trying to work with my 3-year-old, I know the frustration that can take place and how hard it is to be at home with nowhere to go. Just know that I am there with you, feel free to remind the children how much I care for them and how I am still checking their work. I know this will pass and we will be together again for God will provide.
Stay safe, stay healthy,
Mrs. Molina

Mantente a salvo, mantente saludable,
La señora molina
