SOL Information
Across Virginia, students will be taking Standards of Learning (SOL) tests this spring. Federal and state education departments have decided not to cancel this year’s assessments. In Fairfax County Public Schools, testing for grades 3-6 will be scheduled between April 26 and June 4, 2021.
All SOL tests are taken in-person at school. SOL tests are not available for remote delivery from home. Our staff will schedule specific SOL testing dates for your student. In some cases, it may be necessary for us to schedule an SOL testing appointment on a day when your student is not normally attending at school. For example, certain tests may need to be scheduled on a Monday. If this is the case, bus transportation will be provided to school, as needed.
Refusing SOL Testing
For any SOL assessments this spring, you have the right to refuse testing for your student. The Right to Refuse Assessments webpage (https://www.fcps.edu/node/34277) offers information and considerations as you make this decision. If you choose to refuse the SOL tests, please complete this online SOL Intent Google form Contact Carly LeBlanc, cmleblanc@fcps.edu, our technology specialist, at our school if you need help accessing or completing the form.
Virtual Only Students
If you refuse to have your child come into school to take the SOL’s, you must complete the SOL Intent Google form, After you have filled out the SOL Intent Google Form your child will then be eligible to take the VA Remote Progress Monitoring Test during the window of May 10 - June 4. Teachers will send more information about this test at a later date.

Emergency Broadband Benefit Available for Families
The Federal Communications Commission has launched a temporary program to help families and households struggling to afford Internet service during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Emergency Broadband Benefit provides a discount of up to $50 per month toward broadband service for eligible households. Eligible families can also receive a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet from participating providers. This is not an FCPS-funded program. It is a way for families to potentially access a more reliable hard-wired internet connection at a higher bandwidth than the “basic” packages provide.
Eligible households can enroll through a participating broadband provider or directly with the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC) using an online or mail in application.
Learn about the benefit, including eligibility and enrollment information, by visiting www.fcc.gov/broadbandbenefit, or by calling 833-511-0311.
