Girls Basketball
“Never Me, Always We”
By Coach Hull
This year’s Girls basketball teams motto was “Never Me, Always We”. The coaches stressed the importance of playing together and putting the team first. The 7th grade team displayed hard work, determination, and most importantly improvement throughout the course of the season. The 7th Varsity team was led by Joslyn Fuller and Avery Winterscheid. Their ability to be good teammates and hard work were displayed on the court and was noticed throughout the season. Ashlyn Brown, Kenna Leonard, and Jailyn Taylor contributed to the Junior Varsity team with their dedication and determination on the court during games and at practice.
The 8th grade team has had a great season. The roster was low on numbers this year but their competitive spirit has willed them through the season. The varsity was led by Maggie Kauk and Maddie Pitzer. Their competitive drive has helped instill hard work and fight into the team. That fight has transferred into the team competing in every game no matter what the score has been. The Junior Varsity team was led by Karlee Tarter and Makayla Harper. Besides working hard they have had to be versatile in learning different positions throughout the season.

Hubbard Math Competition a Success
By Emily Schmidt
Teams from Central Heights, Garnett, Louisburg, Osawatomie and Paola compete in a Hubbard Math competition each year. Hubbard Math is a math game that involves giving solutions for a given goal. Each time a solution is given, the team can either forbid or require one of the resources (0-9, Addition (2), Subraction (2), Multiplication (1), Division (1), Nested Parentheses) used for the rest of the round. The team wins when the other team cannot come up with a working solution. Division I played 12 rounds that day, and Division II had 11 rounds.
The team of Alyssa Bartlett, Rex Chayer, Colby Ebrecht, and Levi Siders won the Division 1 - Hubbard Math Competition with a record of 8-4 on November 15, 2018.
The team of Gus Cook, Lincoln McIntire and Annabelle Shaw won the Division 2 - Hubbard Math Competition with a record of 9-2 on November 15, 2018. The Paola teams had a good day!

Meet Mrs. Kraus
Written by Leigha Cox and Ashley Ward, 7th grade Journalism
Watching Friday night football games and chilling outside by the fire, this describes Mrs. Kraus’ ideal Friday night. After speaking to Mrs. Kraus we realised how passionate she is about her job and how much she cares for her students.
Mrs. Kraus has been teaching for 21 years. She said she had known that she wanted to be a teacher since 2nd grade, and graduating from Pittsburg State, with her master’s degree, was her last step to make that dream a reality. Getting married and having her children were some other dreams that came true.
Mrs. Kraus shared that her biggest role models were, “ My parents are my biggest role models. They taught me right and wrong. My parents are very supportive of me when I was in school and continued to support my adventures now.” Mrs. Kraus grew up in Tonganoxie, Kansas. She lived on a farm and raised cows, pigs, chickens, and rabbits. She also had ducks and dogs.
Mrs. Krause felt that the job would she be terrible at was working in construction, because she would probably mess up and the building would fall. The best book series she has read would be the Witch and Wizard series. Even though the genre of that series is fiction, Mrs. Kraus’ favorite genre is romance-mystery. An amazing adventure she would love to go on is a tropical cruze, very relaxing. When asked what was what hobby would you get into if money and time wasn’t an issue, she responded, “reading books by the fire.”
