Week 14
Mrs. Boyd
ELA Update
This week in ELA, we are feeling refreshed and are really digging into some fiction. This week we are reading Pink and Say, a story of two soldiers fighting in the Civil War. Since the text is historical fiction, we must think about how setting affects the conflict. Students will be comparing and contrasting the two protagonists, analyzing conflict and conflict resolution, and inferring internal character traits through character dialogue and action. We will also discuss the theme of the text; we know that when a character learns a lesson, a lesson is also revealed to the reader.
After taking a couple of weeks off due to testing and early release, students will have a spelling test this week. Also, just a reminder, students' goals are due Thursday the 15th before we leave for Christmas break. I hope you and your family had a restful Thanksgiving holiday. I am so happy to have these sixth graders back in class!
