Classroom Spotlight... Ms. Bowden's Class!

Over the past few weeks, students in Miss Bowden’s class have been reading and learning about December holidays. We learned about the different ways that people celebrate Hanukkah. Our favorite game to learn was the dreidel game! After reading about Kwanzaa we made our very own Kinaras. We learned about the seven nights of Kwanzaa and how each night is celebrated.

Christmas is a holiday that we are all excited for! We had the opportunity to make our own Christmas lists by cutting out pictures of things that we wanted and writing about why we wanted them! After writing letters to Santa, he even sent us one of his special Elves named CoCo to watch over us!

Happy Holidays!

District Calendar Change!

On December 17, the Board of Education adopted a revised school calendar for the 2015-16 school year to accommodate 181 days of instruction for students. To achieve this change with minimal disruption to the existing calendar, the revised calendar reduces the allotment of snow/emergency days from four to three. Should extra days be needed, they will be added to the calendar in this order: February 16, April 11, and April 12. If these three days are not needed, schools may close in this order with action by the Board of Education: May 31, 27, and 26.

StarLab!

This week our science guru, Mr. Adkins, led his fifth grade science students into the StarLab! STARLAB is an incredibly precise, interactive and exciting planetarium. The design of this portable dome, creates an ideal environment for hands-on, minds-on activities for our students. A powerful fan inflates and circulates air throughout the dome through a carefully designed ventilation system which maintains a comfortable temperature and prevents excessive air loss during entry and exit. As you can see the students had a wonderful experience!
