Fourth Grade News
For the week of December 12, 2016
This Week's Focus:
Writing - Our unit on Informational Writing takes an interactive twist this week! Each student will be responsible for becoming an "expert" on one particular topic, which they will research and complete an essay on prior to our winter break. This week, we will discuss "reliable sources" as we research the different topics of our choice. We will also practice our note-taking strategies as we read through the resources that we find. The children will have opportunities to visit our library and computer lab to locate 2 sources that they will utilize as they take notes on their topic. All of the writing for this project will be completed in school, but each student will also be required to create a visual for their topic at home. The visuals will be due on December 22nd so that they can be displayed for our Open House on Dec. 23rd.
Math - Students will continue to solve multi-step word problems, as well as practice long division.
Social Studies - We will research and discuss natural resources of the Southeast Region.
Science - Students will continue to work on their Natural Disaster slide shows and models. They will also begin presenting them toward the end of the week.
On Friday, December 16 students will be walking to the Police department to deliver Christmas ornaments. Please return the permission slip by Wednesday and ensure your child is dressed appropriately on Friday.
The Weathering, Erosion, and Natural Disaster assessment will be Thursday, December 22. Study guides will come home this Monday.
The fourth grade will have an open house on Friday, December 23 in the cafeteria to showcase their natural disaster slide shows and models, as well as their "Expert" informational writing projects. Everyone is welcome from 10:00 to 11:00. They have worked very hard and we look forward to seeing you there to support their efforts!
