Newsletter 33 - 30 October 2019
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
TELETHON 2019
Enthusiasm and energy levels around the school this week have been fabulous and are at an all-time high. TELETHON 2019- what an awesome effort and a very proud moment for our school community! It is such a pleasure to congratulate Mrs Candice D’Adamo and all students for their commitment and enthusiasm in performing at Telethon last Sunday morning. Our performance was fabulous and each and every child must be commended on their enormous effort.
The commitment of staff, students and parents in the lead-up to this performance, and on the day, has been outstanding and is a real testament of a positive, supportive and vibrant community. Such a great opportunity for the students and what an experience at this age, to perform on TV! The support of the students in raising a $1500.00 donation for Telethon is very much appreciated. Thank you everyone.
School Board Nominations 2020
I encourage any parents who are keen to contribute to the school and have a skillset that may benefit the school to nominate for a position on the WCPS School Board for 2020. There is a commitment of one evening meeting per month and possible sub-committee meetings as required. New Board Members are required to attend a Board Induction in their first year of membership. If you are interested in nominating and would like more information, please feel free to have a chat with me.
Nominations can be emailed to admin@wcps.wa.edu.au no later than close of business Friday 15 November 2019 and elections for Board positions will be held at the upcoming Annual Community Meeting which will take place on Tuesday 19 November.
Year 6 Boys Night In
Yesterday evening the school hosted the 'Boys Night In' workshop. It was attended by about 30 Year 6 boys who were accompanied by their dads or a male family member. The workshop was expertly conducted by Mrs Elaine Mahon and supported by Mr Andrew De Maio, Mr Mike Barns and Mr Geoff Clarke. The school thanks everybody for their attendance and commitment in ensuring our boys are well equipped to negotiate the changes they may be currently experiencing or will experience in the time ahead.
Sustainability at WCPS
It is with enthusiasm that I encourage families to check out the little snippets of information in regard to sustainability that will be found on a weekly basis in our newsletter. Thank you in anticipation to the committee who are doing a fabulous job in getting our school up and running in this regard.
Kindest regards with many blessings

Collating this data has been interesting and we thought we would share with you some of those programs happening in and about the place:

Melbourne Cup 2019
In support of the P & F and the upcoming fete, we are asking children from Pre-Kindy - Year 6 to wear a fancy or creative hat/fascinator on Melbourne Cup Day next Tuesday, 5th of November. The children are also asked to bring in a gold coin donation as part of the day. A child from each class will receive a small prize for the most creative/fancy hat.
Is your child not returning to WCPS in 2020?

Telethon
A huge thank you to everyone who helped us bring a HUGE donation of $1500 to Telethon! To the wonderful parents who baked to those who donated coins to the Dance Showcase. Another huge thank you to all of the staff and parents who helped out on Sunday morning. The experience was indescribable and was a proud moment for everyone that is involved with WCPS to see our superstars dancing on TV. The students were commended by the TV producers on not only their energy and ability but fantastic behaviour. Our dancers, what a day and way to finish our incredible year, we are all so proud of you!!

Student Achievement
Congratulations to Hugh Gorman from 6G who has been accepted into the Gifted & Talented program at Duncraig Senior High School. Well done Hugh and best of luck for the future.
Environmental and Sustainability Committee
The Environment and Sustainability (E&S) Committee have been meeting over the last two months and have identified ways our school community can reduce our ecological footprint. Using the REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE principles, we have identified ways to REDUCE the waste from our school community.
The Waste Audit undertaken at the end of Term 3 highlighted key areas where a large volume of waste is generated. Each year we are currently throwing out 93,000 wrappers (chips, lollies, ice-creams) to landfill.
What can we do?
Have you considered buying snacks in bulk and sending them to school in reusable containers? This will not only reduce waste but will save you money as well.
P and F News
The last fundraising event of the year is the School Fete and we are hoping that by the end of the fete we would've raised enough money to construct Stage 2 of the Nature Based Playground. An event such as the fete is not successful without the support and help from all in the school community. Each class has been allocated a stall on the day and we are asking parents to spare half an hour between 11am-3pm volunteering on their classes stall. This will be done via School Stream so please look out for the link. As previously requested please send in any donation of unwanted soft toys and a jar of something for our Lucky Dip Jar stall. We thank you in anticipation of your continued support.
Calling all Year 4-6 students
Please share with us your favourite inspirational quote/quotes; the quote that means the most to you!
The P&F are looking for some really cool, thought provoking quotes to paint on the stall doors inside the girls and boys bathrooms and it could be one of yours!!!!
Email the P&F on pandf@wcps.wa.edu.au asap and yours could be chosen.
