Gwinnett Great Days of Service!

Beginning Monday, October 19th, we will be collecting canned goods and toiletries as part of Great Days of Service, a program of the Gwinnett Coalition for Health and Human Services. Each year at this time, we ask students to donate canned goods and toiletries as a service to our community. Students are asked to deposit items in boxes located in their Homerooms. The collection will last through Friday, October 23rd, so please considering donating items to those in great need in Gwinnett. The Gwinnett Coalition supports non-profit agencies that provide goods and services to people within the community who are struggling financially or emotionally and receive assistance with basic needs. These non-profit agencies rely almost solely upon donations, so we really appreciate your support! Click here for information on ways you can volunteer for other Great Days of Service projects in our area. Thanks again!!

Parent Survey!

Parents, we need your help! Please visit the Parent Portal and take a brief, confidential survey that will help us improve our school! The survey should pop up on log-in at https://go2gwinnett.k12.ga.us/parents/PPS/login.

Morning Help Session Days - New Drop-Off Info!

In an effort to relieve the campus traffic congestion in the mornings, the leadership team, several teachers and clerks, and our custodial team are now assisting with the car rider lane on Help Session Days only. On Wednesday and Thursday mornings only, we are allowing students to exit their cars beginning at 8:00am and remain on the blacktop with supervision until we open the doors at 8:15am.

This system should allow you the ability to drop your students for Help Sessions at the back of the building without the long lines you encountered previously. Please do not drop off your students anywhere other than the back of the building at the blacktop area, and please help us by following the requests of staff members directing traffic, etc. These staff members are in place to ensure a smooth, safe, and orderly drop-off.

We ask that you please do not drop off your students prior to 8:15am on any days other than Wednesdays and Thursdays.

We appreciate your cooperation.

Bidding for Good!

Parents, please support our Brookwood Cluster by participating in the "Bidding For Good" fundraising auction! Funds generated are used to make improvements to our cluster schools and to help purchase valuable equipment and technology to provide rich and engaging lessons for students. Click here for a link to the online auction! We appreciate your support!

Calling all parents! Do you work in a STEAM-related career? STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics and Five Forks Middle School wants to expose our students to meaningful learning opportunities grounded in these disciplines.

We're looking for parent volunteers to share their wisdom and experiences with our students. Your involvement could range from speaking with our students about your job to leading a hands-on demonstration within one of our classes. Also, if you know of any STEAM companies or organizations in the surrounding area, then we're looking to form partnerships with them. Our goal is to expose our students to STEAM-related careers that use their academic knowledge and skills to solve real-world problems and make a difference in our world!

Please provide your information using the STEAM Survey. If you have any questions or additional ideas, then please contact Andrew Whatley, Assistant Principal for STEAM.

Clinic News!

Autumn is in full swing and we are beginning to see students with the common cold usually associated with the change of seasons. Our County Nurse has provided these guidelines from the Health Department to assist you in determining if your child is "Too Sick For School." If you have specific questions, please contact Kathy Crews in our FFMS clinic at kathy_crews@gwinnett.k12.ga.us. Thanks for your assistance with keeping all of our students healthy!

We Love Our Five Forks Family!

Each week, we highlight a member of our staff with the "Count Me In" award so that others will get a glimpse of the awesome work going on within the building. We hope you enjoy learning about our fantastic staff!

On November 3, 2015, Gwinnett County voters will be asked to extend the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax for Education (E-SPLOST). Over the years, E-SPLOST has funded educational capital projects that have benefited all students in Gwinnett County. It is important for Gwinnett citizens to be aware of the E_SPLOST and the school district's plan for meeting the classroom and technology needs of Gwinnett's growing student enrollment. October 5th is the last day to register to vote for this upcoming election. Absentee and early voting begins October 12th and ends October 31st.
