PING for 4th / 5th Grade Musical Instruments
For over 20 years PING! has reduced the barrier to an equitable music experience for families in need, including:
- Families who are eligible for F/R lunch or fee waivers.
- Families with exceptional family circumstances at this time (example: single parent, temporary job loss/transition, family health issues, housing issues, special needs)
- Students being raised by a non-parent guardian or a foster child
- A family whose income makes renting an instrument a significant financial burden that would prohibit student(s) from participating.
We would hate for students or parents not to attend informational meetings or sign-up night because they believe the program is out of their reach financially.
PING! will be at the D97 Instrumental Music sign-up nights at Julian Middle School on Sept 10th and 11th from 5 – 8 PM. They will also accept “late signups” until Sept. 17 through referrals by teachers and social workers. You can contact them at: pingoprf@gmail.com

BRAVO Hosts Young Americans Sept 19 - 21
What can your students look forward to?
This hi-energy comprehensive performance workshop covers everything from vocal techniques, dance, and comedy improvisation, to stage movement, sound, lighting, and more. Learning a show in 3 days helps students learn to work together, to respect each other’s strengths, and to discover their own potential.
After three days of intensive performance instruction, it’s showtime! This show is jam-packed with choral, jazz, contemporary, musical theatre, rock n’ roll, and more. Your students will be the ones in front singing, dancing, and performing the variety show and solos they’ve learned in just two days.

Dental Clinic is Coming
The dentist will perform an exam, cleaning for those who are eligible, and apply sealants to permanent teeth.
The clinic is free for all families. The exam will satisfy the requirement of a dental exam for students in kindergarten, 2nd grade and 6th grade. Since the exam is valid for 12 months, this would cover students currently in 1st grade and 5th grade.
Permission forms will be sent home later this week.

Celebrate Holmes Staff
Families, have you noticed a Holmes teacher or staff member who deserves a compliment or a thank you? Has this person made a difference for your child? Please share the reason in a brief email to me (czelaya@op97.org) so that we may recognize and thank them!
Community Hawk Nest
We hope the new school year is off to a great start! The Annual Fall Carnival is tomorrow, Saturday, September 7, from 4:30-7pm. This event is entirely volunteer-run and for the third year in a row, admission will be free to the Holmes community.
There will be games, inflatables, a cakewalk, that needs baked goods donations. Concessions like popcorn and pizza will be available for sale. The PTO invites you to consider signing up to help out and make this fun event a success!
We still need your help with staffing games, selling concessions, or with clean-up during and after the event, among other options. There is a volunteer sign-up genius available online with more details Click here to sign-up.
The PTO also invites our older students, especially 4th and 5th graders, to sign-up to help. Several students helped last year. Our Holmes leaders helped with running games and concessions - we'd love to have our amazing Holmes Hawks participate again. If you can, please sign them up via the online sign-up genius.
FALL EDGE IS COMING SOON! 9/30-11/22
