Literacy Corner

This week the students were introduced to two new word wall words: come and here. We also reviewed all Letterlanders, letter associated and sound associated with each. We also reviewed and taught the students about beginning sound and how to connect it to their reading. Please review all sight words taught, as well as letters and sounds.

During reading we were to introduce the students to pumpkins and have a great amount of literacy activities related to pumpkins, but with our field trip, we focused on reading skills and phonics during our guided reading rotations were they received these skills in small groups.

Next week we will review all word wall words and sight words taught thus far. We will not have any new word wall words. We will also learn about Halloween and related topics: pumpkins, bats, spiders and Dia de los Muertos. We will also complete our literacy assessments for the quarter.

Math Lab

This week we reviewed all skills taught thus far: numbers, counting, shapes, positional words and sorting.

Next week we will continue to work on all skills taught, as well as complete our math assessments for the quarter.

Parental FYI...

Please remember to send in your child's snack money. We have a snack in class daily. We ask that you not send in extra snacks. We ask that you pay for it monthly ($8), quarterly ($18) or yearly ($72) to help use our time more for instruction.

Please leave your child's "Weekly Report" in their communicators. We use the weekly report to help us keep track on behavioral incentives. We then file those away for documentation throughout the year. They will be returned to you at the end of the year.

Many students have been forgetting to put their names on their papers. Please tell your child how important this is. It helps us makes sure that we know who completes the activities. It also helps them with writing their names, which are found on their classroom tool kits. We have informed the students that if they turn in a paper with no name, they will have to move a stick. Please help them remember so they don't have to move a stick.

With the weather getting colder, please remember to send your child with a jacket to put on when going outside. We want to make sure they don't get sick
