Deadline is Fast Approaching!
The deadline for Within-District Transfer applications for the 2019-2020 school year is February 15, 2020. This is for students who are new to Rockwell and who live in the Millard district. If your child is in 5th grade and would like to attend a middle school other than their assigned school, you MUST apply to attend their school of choice.
If your child is already open or option enrolled at Rockwell, you do not need to reapply to stay at Rockwell.
Take a Look!
During conferences, the Rockwell Lost and Found will be displayed on tables in the front hallway.
Please stop by to see if you can claim any of your lost items!
The Lost and Found is normally located in the wooden benches in the front entryway. Please have your children check it on occasion for any items they may have lost.
Everything left over after conference will be donated to a local charity.
#BeKind When You're Online
How can I monitor my child online? When should my child get a phone? What is “vamping” anyway?
The Millard Public Schools Superintendent’s Interfaith Advisory asked these questions and more importantly, is assisting families with the answers.
MPS and the Interfaith Advisory have collaborated on the #BeKind When You’re Online initiative.
Join us Tuesday, March 3 at Millard West High School, 6:30-7:30 PM for an informational Parent’s Night session with START (Stand Together and Rethink Technology). START has been nationally recognized for their work and was featured by Diane Sawyer on her Screen Time special last spring. Together we will learn how to begin the conversations that every family needs to have about the use of digital technology in their home.
This event for parents is free and open to the public.
Student Drop Off and Pick-up Reminder
When picking up or dropping off your children, do not park and leave your car on the street from the corner of Birchwood and 140th Ave. to the entrance of the drive thru. This section of the street is designated by the City as a No Parking area due to traffic congestion before and after school and you can be ticketed by the police.
The drive thru at the front of our school is for student drop-off and pick up only! For safety reasons and to keep the traffic flowing smoothly & quickly, you'll need to drive forward as far as possible before stopping to let your children out of your car. For Pick-Up, drive forward as far as possible leaving enough room for the buses. Please do not pull around cars at the curb to the front of the line. You may pull around cars at the curb if you are going to a parking spot in the parking lot. Please do not park in the orange coned area. This area is blocked off to allow the school buses to pull into the drive.
Parking and leaving your car in the drive thru, either A.M. or P.M. is not allowed in order to keep traffic flowing. If you'd like to walk your child to the building in the morning or wait for your child in the area in the front of the school, you'll need to park along Birchwood or in the side parking lot.
140th Avenue from Monroe Street to Birchwood is a One-Way street from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. every day, 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and 1:45 to 2:45 on Wednesday.
The “No Left Turn” signs posted by the City Traffic Dept. are to be observed during A.M. drop off and P.M. pick up.
Please remember the speed limit is 20 mph when children are present, Monday through Friday.
Playground Update
The MPS District is funding a Playground Edge Improvement project at Rockwell Elementary. The current railroad ties will be removed from the playground and replaced with new edging.
Please look below for the approved plans. As of right now we do not have a start date for construction. We will keep you informed as more information becomes available.
This is not a new playground, but it is a step in the right direction to making our playground safer for our students.
Sincerely,
Joycilyn Rozelle
Principal
