Sehome High School Mariner Memo
Week of June 14 - 18, 2021
Principal's Letter
It is hard to believe that this is the last principal's letter for this school. What a wild and crazy ride this has been. We had an incredible time celebrating the class of 2021 last week. The senior tailgate and graduation were a great way to wrap up our time with this class. Below is the link to the professional pictures taken at graduation. They are free to download. The link to the video of graduation is also available below. A huge thank you to the PTSA and senior parents for making these such fun events.
Yearbooks are free for all students this year. 9th-11th grade students will get their yearbooks during Anchor on Monday and Tuesday. If students are not able to pick them up at that time or are working remotely, yearbooks will also be available for pickup in the ASB office daily from 8 AM - 4 PM.
For some of our beloved staff members, their time at Sehome has come to a close. I would like to give a huge thank you to the following staff members who are leaving after this school year:
- Jeff Allen, Head Custodian
- Matthew Boushey, Ed Tech TOSA
- Matthew Buckmaster, Long Term Sub in Math and English
- Monique Carpenter, Exceptional Ed Teacher
- Garrett Knoll, Science Teacher
- Kim Kuehnel, Exceptional Education Teacher
- Meghan Lever, Intervention Prevention Specialist
- Erin McEachern, Long Term Sub in Exceptional Education Department
- Cathy Romine, Administrative Assistant to the Principal
- Jessica Schlichting, Choir Teacher
- Liesl Vial, Exceptional Education Teacher
- Shuvaun Wolpers, School Psychologist
We wish you all the best on your next adventures and thank you so much for all your work!
This week we will collect any supplies, textbooks, library books, laptops, chargers, cases, etc. that you have around the house! Laptops and accessories will be returned at the end of the day on Friday. All other items should be returned as soon as possible. We appreciate you looking under beds, in backpacks, and around the house to find any of these items.
Friday is our last day of school. We will officially be done at 12:30 PM on Friday, June 12th. Grades will be posted in Skyward by June 24. Printed report cards will be mailed home after that date.
We do not know for sure what next school year will look like, but we do know that we will have students back for full days, 5 days a week. We will be back to the pre-pandemic ABAB schedule, rather than the 22-day rotation. Counselors are working on students' schedules, and they will be available for student viewing on Skyward in late August. Please know that our counselors take a summer break and will not be accessing their email or voicemail over the summer. If you have questions about your schedule, please know that they will get back to you on their return.
Our teachers' last day is June 18. They will not be accessing their email or voicemail over the summer. If you have questions that need to be addressed immediately, please reach out to the main office.
Our summer hours are posted below. Please note that our office will be completely closed July 12-23.
We hope that you all find time to rest and relax over the summer. Know that I deeply appreciate each one of you. It has truly taken a community to get us through this year.
If you have any questions, comments, reflections, or insights, please reach out!
Sonia Cole
Principal

Appointment reminder / Recordatorio de cita (español está abajo) : you are scheduled to receive your second dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine on Friday, June 18 at Sehome High School. Your second dose appointment is at the same time as your first dose appointment. If that time does not work for you, please come anytime between 8:30 and noon.
If you are unable to come on June 18 for your second dose, you may schedule an appointment with any provider offering the Pfizer vaccine beginning June 10. DOH’s Vaccine Locator provides a searchable list of COVID vaccine providers by type.

2) Your vaccination card you received at your first dose appointment.
Please come on time for your appointment (don’t come early as there isn’t enough waiting room.) And don’t forget: wear short sleeves for easy access to your arm.
Thank you for getting your second dose of the COVID vaccine. Please note that you will not be considered fully vaccinated until two weeks after your second dose. Read more about how to protect yourself and others when you have been fully vaccinated at the CDC website.

Reminder: Register now for fall 2021
Registration for fall 2021 is still open for kindergarten and all grades. Families can register students via this webpage. Registering now helps us hire staff, balance our classes, connect with families and ready our schools to welcome our students.
Registration is for students new to our district or who want to return after transferring to a school or program outside our district. You do not need to register current students; we automatically re-enroll them.
A special note about kindergarten: All children who will be 5 before Sept. 1, 2021 can be registered for kindergarten. We plan to start in-person learning at every school this fall with strong safety protocols in place.
To find out more about attendance areas, registration and childhood immunization schedules, please visit bellinghamschools.org/kindergarten or contact our elementary schools directly. Feel free to let a friend or neighbor with a future kindergartner know the registration window is open and ready for them!

In addition, thank you to the admin team for supporting the vision, and to those who donated money, time, energy, games, and supplies to make it happen. Sehome rocks!
