Lakeland Ridge Weekly Update!
Friday, December 10, 2021
Hello Lakeland Ridge families,
Thank you for your patience and understanding this week as we navigated the icy conditions. We are hoping some snow falls or the sun shines to add some traction to the outdoor fields and playground areas this weekend.
Next week we are kicking off the holiday season and encouraging students and staff to dress in festive attire throughout the week. The following week students can wear their ugliest festive sweaters on Monday and comfy pajamas on Tuesday. Please refer to the upcoming events outlined below for the specific dates.
The last day before the Christmas break is on Tuesday, December 21, 2021. Students will return to school on Wednesday, January 5, 2022. Please note that the first day back following the Christmas break is early dismissal and school will end at 1:55 PM. If you have any questions, please contact the school office at 780-416-9018 or reference the EIPS Division Calendar.
We hope you have a wonderful weekend and find time to connect with family and friends.

Holiday Travel Reminders
As the Christmas break approaches, we wish to remind you of federal public health regulations related to when students are permitted to return to school after travelling outside of Canada.
Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated students under 12 years of age travelling with fully vaccinated parents or guardians cannot return to school or daycare for 14 days following their return to Canada, and must follow the mandatory requirements under the Minimizing the Risk of Exposure to COVID-19 in Canada Order.
Fully vaccinated students 12 years and older who travelled out of the country can return to school without delay so long as they are asymptomatic. If unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, these students are subject to the Government of Canada’s required 14-day quarantine, regardless of whether they are accompanied by a parents or guardian who qualifies as a fully vaccinated traveller.
Additional information on travel restrictions and public health regulations can be found at the Government of Canada’s website. Any questions or concerns about these restrictions should be directed to the Government of Canada, through their www.travel.gc.ca website.
Volunteer Update
All Elk Island Public Schools require proof of full vaccination, or a negative COVID-19 test result, from volunteers and visitors. Please note proof of vaccination is not required for those visiting for a short time and not interacting with students—parents, school council members, external delivery or service vendors.
Parent volunteers (field trips, classroom visits, etc.) can either come to the office and show their ID and vaccination card to school administration for scanning, or they can email their QR code to Jeff Huculak at jeff.huculak@eips.ca. Volunteers may also be required to show their ID and QR code at field trip venues.
Fee Waiver Application Deadline
If circumstances exist where you’re unable to pay school or transportation fees, you can apply to have fees waived by submitting an Application for a Waiver of Fees. The application deadline is Dec. 15, 2021. If you’re new to the Division, the deadline is the latter of Dec. 15, 2021, or 45 days after registration.
To access your fee information, simply log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal and go to “Student Fees.” There you can view your fees and pay them online using Visa or MasterCard. All fees are due within 30 days of being posted.
Don’t forget to also log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal regularly throughout the year. Fees are often added to your child’s account to cover the cost of various school activities such as field trips, class projects, extracurricular activities and more.
For more information about school fees, waivers and payment deadlines, visit www.eips.ca/schools/fees and LLR fees.

Returning Student Registration for 2022-23
Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) will once again conduct an online returning student registration process to confirm student registrations for the 2022-23 school year. Families of all current students—with the exception of graduating Grade 12 students—must complete the process to confirm the school their child plans to attend in the 2022-23 school year or advise the Division of their plans not to return to EIPS. Additionally, students who want to attend a non-designated school need to make that request through the returning student registration process—acceptance is based on available space. The 2022-23 returning student registration takes place Feb. 1-28, 2022.
Access to the Returning Student Registration Form is provided throughthrough the PowerSchool Parent Portal. If you don’t have a PowerSchool Parent Portal account, you need to set one up before Feb. 1, 2022.

Inclement Weather
With the winter season almost here, we want to remind families to dress children appropriately for the weather when getting ready for school or the bus. The weather often changes unexpectedly throughout the day, so please select suitable outerwear and ensure your child is prepared for changing conditions.
If inclement weather conditions occur, Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) advises families of any bus cancellations using various communications tools—automated-telephone messages, alerts posted on www.eips.ca and school websites, Twitter, Facebook, local radio stations, and notification through both the Bus Status and the Ride 360 apps. Morning bus cancellations are posted on www.eips.ca by 6:30 a.m.
Decisions regarding bus cancellations are guided by EIPS administrative procedures that state, “school bus service may be suspended…when there is a forecast or current temperature of -40 C, including wind chill factor, in one or more regions.” Other reasons for suspending or delaying school bus services include adverse weather and poor road conditions. When school bus services are suspended, schools remain open to students. EIPS believes families have the right and responsibility to make choices for their children based on their beliefs and perceptions of safety during times of inclement weather.

No Child Without: Free MedicAlert for students
In our ongoing effort to provide safe and caring schools for students, Lakeland Ridge School is registered in the Canadian MedicAlert Foundation’s No Child Without program. The program is a national initiative that provides no-cost MedicAlert services to children—between the ages of four and 14 years—who have chronic health conditions. The goal is twofold: to help children with severe allergies, medical conditions or special needs and to assist schools with medical-emergency plans for students.
Once a child is registered, the school is provided with advice on a medical-emergency plan for that student and given a list of medications, allergies and medical conditions the student has. If your child has a serious medical condition or allergy and could benefit from MedicAlert services, contact the school office at 780-416-9018.
