How to Prevent Eating Disorders

Learning about the harm eating disorders can have to your body will help prevent people from having it as an option. It's very important to have an open communication with your loved ones about the importance of eating disorders, it will allow them to have an open mind about it and allow them to think twice about it.

What qualities should you keep an eye out for?

whether we realize it or not, we all notice qualities about a person that cause us to have an opinion. So it's important to really keep notice when you see things about a person that are unusual. For example, someone who constantly complains about being hungry but you never see them eating, or someone who's self-esteem is overly related to body image. This is so important because you may be the only person that has noticed these qualities so you can make a difference.

ARE SOME FOODS "BAD" ?

Yes, in a lot of ways people will use food to escape their problems, or eat because they are bored. In other ways, people eat not because their body needs it but because their brain "thinks" that their hungry. It's important to eat a healthy balanced meal to avoid from eating excessively and making foods bad for you.

DO MEDIA IMAGES PROMOTE THINNESS? HOW DO YOU REACT?

Yes, cultural pressures that glorify "thinness" or muscularity and place value on obtaining the "perfect body". Young children even grow up on watching all the media which this long-term exposure lays a foundation of negative effects. But in all reality no one can live up to the worlds standards of the "perfect body" not even the models in those images live up to the standards! It's all publicity and people just trying to make money and that's what you have to remind yourself, that it's not real!

HOW TO BE A GOOD EXAMPLE AND ROLE MODEL

To be a good role model you need to exhibit acceptance of yourself and take appropriate measures to deal with your body function and size. And to be able to compliment others and lift people up to show that beauty is not just appearance but on the inside as well.
