Upper EL News
Dear Upper Elementary families,
We hope everyone enjoyed their fall break and got to experience the beautiful colors of our changing season. It has been great to be back at school this week, to see all of your children and to hear about their adventures over break.
Highlights from the week and a look ahead to next week:
We wrapped up our Universe research projects with presentations by the students displaying their tri-fold boards in the gym to the lower elementary, their upper elementary peers and parents. The kids put a lot of time and effort into these projects, they were very impressive! Thanks to all the parents who sent in boards and who came to the presentations.
Other academics this week: MATH–4th continued working with fractions; 5th graders worked with metric conversions and decimals; 6th graders worked with factors and fractions. SCIENCE–4th graders learned about thermodynamics; 5th graders did a fun activity about shadows and the sun; 6th graders spent time this week doing Cogat testing. READING, WRITING, COMMUNICATING - everybody shared about the books that they had read over fall break, we did some creative writing, reading comprehension and there were tryouts for the spelling bee.
Congratulations to Vincent, Taegan and Hazel for representing our school at the district spelling bee!!!!!

Thank you to all parents who volunteer in our classrooms! We have had classroom helpers, spelling helpers, and recess helpers. We appreciate you! Volunteer opportunities in the classroom include giving and grading spelling tests on Friday mornings (8:30 - 9:30am), organizational projects, photocopies, etc. Other opportunities include helping with our fundraisers throughout the year. A lot of the money we raise is used to support our many field trips in Upper El, so we appreciate any time and efforts parents and Upper El students can give. Parents also can serve on leadership and fundraising committees. Please contact us if you are interested in volunteering.
Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Email is the easiest way to communicate with us, and be sure to check out our school website for important information, dates, and our staff bios.
