RPI Pulse Newsletter

January 2, 2022

A note from the principal's desk...

Good Afternoon RPI Families,

I hope that this newsletter finds you doing well and having a great start to the New Year. We are excited to be back to school tomorrow and engaging with your student(s).

A few things as we prepare for the week:

  • Now that we are moving from a mask mandate to STRONGLY recommended, I want to urge you to consider our Positivity Project Motto...Other People Mindset. Others may choose or are unable to be vaccinated. Others may be immunocompromised. Others may be more susceptible to getting sick or sicker than you. Please keep wearing masks!
  • PM Specials Schedule: At some point, there was some miscommunication that students were able to "change" specials (band/choir/PE in the afternoon) at the semester. I apologize for the miscommunication as that is NOT the case.
  • PM Specials Schedule #2: We will be meeting with all students tomorrow to discuss PM Specials tardiness/attendance. We have seen an increase of student attempting to "manipulate" the day(s) that they attend one of their afternoon specials. We will have an increased focus in monitoring these schedules and posting rosters in the hallway to help students know where they are supposed to be.
  • Fastbridge Testing: Fastbridge testing will resume this month as we conclude the first semester. Please discuss the importance of this assessment with your student as their results help us plan for their academic success and specific interventions.

Have a great week everyone!

Yours in Rocket Pride,

Scott

100 Hours Challenge

The Reeths-Puffer Wellness Committee is challenging all staff and students (and families) to participate in 100 hours outdoors in the month of January. This challenge is inspired from 1,000 Hours Outside .

This is an attempt to match nature time with screen time. Children are spending an average of 1200 hours a year on screens. Let's work to encourage spending this time outdoors and shift towards a more productive and healthy outcome. :)

This challenge will began on January 1. If you are feeling inspired to try 1,000 hours outdoors, that challenge runs through the end of the calendar year.

CLICK HERE for the sheet to track the number of hours outside every month! Anyone who turns in this sheet on February 1 will be entered into a prize drawing!

The Positivity Project

This week's character strength: Optimism

With the excitement of a new year upon us, it is great to start out this week focused on being optimistic!

Our working definition is that you expect the best from the future and work to achieve it.

Watch this video - it reminds me of the power our words can have over others...especially our own kids. No matter our current situation, we can always work to change it. Please know that we are here to help all of our kids reach their hopes and dreams. TOGETHER WE ARE STRONGER!

Protect Young Eyes - Digital Trust Framework

If you haven't looked at the Protect Young Eyes website, it is a great resource that helps parents help kids navigate this crazy world of social media. There is some content that is related to the owner's religious beliefs, but there is also very good information that is applicable to all of us.
