Wear Blue on Monday for Virginia Beach
The tragedy that hit Virginia Beach on Friday has devastated the region, the state, and the nation.
We have students whose parents work in Virginia Beach, employees who make Virginia Beach their home, and many more with friends and family connected to the resort city.
On Monday, Isle of Wight County Schools asks all students, staff, and families to wear blue, along with Virginia Beach schools and other schools in the region, to honor the lives lost on May 31.

School Information
- Every student is REQUIRED to read at least 30 minutes every night. Hardy elementary currently has a homework practice in place that only consist of nightly reading. This is the homework assignment on most nights from teachers. Please click on the link below for research based information. https://www.theguardian.com/teacher-network/2017/feb/07/homework-is-it-worth-the-hassle It is imperative for ALL students to read independently for 30 minutes at home.
- We are always looking for volunteers to read to our kindergarten and first grade students. If you are interested in volunteering and reading with our students, please contact Linda Henk @ lhenk@iwcs.k12.va.us
- Reading every day is very important for your child’s continued growth. Children that read for at least 1 hour a day will grow more than 2 years during the school year. Please encourage your child to read for at least 30 minutes (2 steps) a day. Click on the September edition of Building Readers for more information on how to help your child become a better reader.
