A Tip from Ms. Durham
(LCAP GOAL 5 & 2)
Sometimes, giving students a writing assignment (or a project) can be daunting. However, here are some tips that can be helpful:
- Keep the directions/expectations clear and concise.
- Have the students highlight or underline key words in the task.
- Ask the students if they understand the direction--having them repeat them back to you.
- Show students an example. This often helps students to see how they can push themselves to do more.
- Have a rubric so that students see how they will be assessed on the assignment.
- If it is really complex, have students work on one chunk at a time.
Our students are capable of doing so much. We just need to help them to see how they can get there successfully.
ELPAC
(LCAP GOAL 6 )
Soledad High EL students took the Listening portion of the ELPAC test this past week. The Summative ELPAC is used to measure the skills of English Learners. The results will help tell the school or district if the student is ready to be reclassified as proficient in English. There are 4 task types tested (at the high school level) in the Listening section of the test: Listen to a Short Exchange, Listen to a Classroom Conversation, Listen to a Speaker Support an Opinion, and Listen to an Oral Presentation. The tasks allow students to show their abilities in listening to English and have a primary and secondary alignment to California English Language Development standards. Please encourage our students to do their best as they take the Reading and Speaking portions of the test next week. If you would like more information about the various task types please contact Melissa Armer at ext. 237

PBIS Perfect Attendance Challenge for December 2019
The PBIS Committee would like to congratulate the 344 students who got perfect attendance in December. The students demonstrated school spirit for being responsible for their education and were rewarded during lunchtime. And remember students to be Safe, Honorable, and Scholarly because it is a great day to be an AZTEC.
