Battle of Iwo Jima
The Battle of Iwo Jima started February 19 and ended in the same year, on March 26 1945. The American military force fought the land of the rising sun, Japan. It was held at the Bonin chain of islands on the Japanese coasts.
Significance
Sixty-Eight hundred tons of bombs were used, Twenty-two thousand artillery shells, Across three airfields. After this great battle were left 21,844 Japanese casualty soldiers, and 6,821 American casualty soldiers. An American Victory. The most common photo of the battle is of the famous group of American soldiers raising the flag of Great America.
